DEC 15, 14 .. TODAY’S RHETORICAL QUESTION ..

What is HAPPINESS?

In my opinion .. Happiness is different things at different times in different places. Happiness varies from day to day.

Today .. for me .. SUBLIME and total HAPPINESS IS .. to begin with .. two things ..

First .. Happiness for me today is simply BEING IN HONG KONG! 

Second .. Happiness for me today is having my very own Nokia China Mobile CELL PHONE with my very own HONG KONG TELEPHONE NUMBER!

How many people do each of you know who have a HONG KONG TELEPHONE NUMBER? Several times today .. not just once but several times this afternoon ..

Patti successfully TELEPHONED ME! here in Hong Kong!

I know! I know! MANY (All?) of you may not think this is any big deal .. but to me it is ENORMOUS! You must jump through several hoops to make this happen.

Continuing ..

For me .. today .. HAPPINESS is having a FRIEND (The gentleman closest to us in the below photo in the light colored trousers) who carries a business card that identifies him as being a TELECOMMUNICATIONS PROFESSIONAL! 

Without him I could not have gotten my Nokia China Mobile Cell Phone. Pure and simple. He patiently walked me through the process one step at a time because this is what he does for a living! It took us about two or so hours to finish the process. We shopped for the cell phone in a number of stores (There are a great number of them in one specific area of Hong Kong) and then purchased the SIM Card from China Mobile and had their technicians install it for me. Since I have coveted having my own cell phone here in Hong Kong .. and since the purchase of one was totally beyond my ability to do so on-my-own .. he is what I call .. ONE of God’s Special Eskimos.

Happiness today was .. a chilled .. Orange, Carrot & Ginger health drink given to me as his treat-to-me by the second friend in the photo above.

“Yes ‘Zilla?” .. “You can’t read the label on the bottle in the above photo?” How about the below photo.

HAPPINESS is being able to sit outside in the above and below pricey upscale setting in Hong Kong!

All you have to do here in Hong Kong is to simply LOOK UP!

What is it that I am doing to have the below HAPPY occurrence visit me?

I checked back into my dormitory room at the YMCA last Saturday evening .. I am in the lower ‘B’ bed below ..

I was relaxing and getting myself organized when I heard a quiet tapping on my door ..

When I opened the door .. standing there before me .. was the NIGHT FRONT-DESK DUTY-MANAGER!

“Hi Mr. Chastain .. I am just checking to be sure everything is all right in your room. Do you need anything at all?” ..

“A-h-h .. Well .. Since you asked .. I could use a second pillow .. an electrical outlet adapter .. and another blanket.”

” No problem I will have housekeeping deliver them right away.” Of course he did .. all were in my hands in about 5-minutes!

Then he spied ‘Zilla’s Instant Chinese Noodles and Chinese Peanut Butter (Chunky Style) sitting nearby.

With obvious pleasure and relish he proudly and firmly stated ..

“These are NOT MADE IN CHINA! .. These are products of HONG KONG!”

I thought to myself .. quietly .. “Ahh-h-h last time I checked .. Hong Kong was part of China.” Hong Kong residents are similar in this way to Alaska Residents.  When asked where I am from I say .. “I am from Alaska.”

Think for a moment about the above.  The front desk duty manager could easily have sent any number of people up to my room to check on me. Instead he personally came to my room to check in with me. Goodness! I MUST be doing something right! This interchange made me feel VERY HAPPY!

Moving right along on TODAY’S HAPPINESS ADVENTURE!

Walking slowly through this section of Hong Kong Park made me VERY HAPPY! It is so quiet and calm and serene!

I write a lot of Post Cards. So far I have written well over one hundred while here in Hong Kong. So the price per Post Card can add up. Below are two shops selling Post Cards.

There was a phenomenal 1989 movie about baseball titled .. “Field of Dreams.”

In the movie .. you can GOOGLE it .. a young man had a dream about building a baseball field in his Iowa cornfield hearing the message .. “IF you build it .. They will come.” The ‘they’ being old time baseball players.

I feel this way almost every time I begin a Post. What on earth will I write this time.  Then the voice .. Have Faith .. IF you will just begin .. A POST WILL HAPPEN.

VOILA! I AM SO VERY HAPPY! 

Yet another Post has just happened! Smiles .. Cap

As I sign off .. it is now 12:34AM Midnight here in Kowloon in Hong Kong on Tuesday December the 16th.  I AM going straight and I am going directly to McDonalds and enjoy another Smarties McFlurry .. chopped up M&M chocolate candies and soft ice cream!

Um-m-m-m-m .. THAT IS HAPPINESS !
