JUN 6, 15 .. JUNE 6, 1944 .. ‘D-DAY’ IN FRANCE ..

June 6th 1944 was the day when the allied forces stormed ashore on the blood stained beaches of Normandy in France and began the final chapters of World War II in the European Theater.

On that day .. at age 7 years 9 months .. I was among the legions who were not able to be there with you who were there. I was most certainly well aware of the war.

Donny Altoff was a childhood friend who lived up-the-street from me. Donny had a sister Terese who was dating a Marine in the Pacific Theater.

I believe because of Donny’s older sister that .. at age 7 years and 9 months .. I had decided that ‘someday’ I would ‘grow up’ and serve in the United States Marine Corps.

Rest In Peace you who served and you who died that we may live the free lives we are living.

I Remember You .. I Salute You .. I Honor You .. I Thank You ..

‘Semper Fi’ .. Cap ..

Yes … hats off, hands over hearts, heads bowed … to all of those who served in our armed forces and blessed us with the freedom and safety that we know today. I am grateful every single day. Humbly, Patti

This .. of course .. includes your dad and your brother who .. though never tested .. was none-the-less ready if called up .. and your nephew who is currently serving. Love .. Cap ..

Oh, my Dad WAS tested … he served in the Navy in the South Pacific and was on a ship at sight when the our flag was raised at Iwo Jima. And, my nephew, in the Army, was tested, in the line of fire on two deployments. one on the streets in Iraq, from house to house and in the streets sweeping for IED’s … and in the hills of Afghanistan. My brother was ready but not tested.

We owe our lives as we know them to our brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

Thank you for your service Cap. Love, Patti

It was Bill NOT your Dad nor Brad I meant about never being tested. Bill was never tested. I don’t think Bill was on long term active duty was he? I KNOW your Dad was and Brad continues to be at-the-ready. Love .. Cap ..

I was unable to post a comment regarding your son’s cookie idea on that blog post so I’ll do it here.

It’s sad that something so simple as offering a child a cookie can be so complicated and difficult. What a strange world we live in.

It is a world unto themselves the beggar communities Shaddy. See IF you don’t open the package of cookies .. and make sure they put the cookie into their mouth .. they will sell it if they are able ..
