JUN 7, 15 .. GREAT IDEA ROBB .. COOKIES FOR ‘TOUGH COOKIE’ STREET CHILDREN

I was thinking of writing today about D-Day with Mongolian Airlines and my total and my utter failure .. so far over several days .. to get a ticket lined up to go to Mongolia on July 16th until August 3rd. All of my D-Day assaults upon MIAT (they say it me at) which is Mongolian Airlines.

Then what to my wondering eyes should appear but an e-mail from my eldest son Rockin’ Robb ..

GREAT IDEA ROBB .. COOKIES FOR ‘TOUGH COOKIE’ STREET CHILDREN

THIS N THAT 004

STREET KIDS 001

STREET KIDS 002

His e-mail reads in part as follows:

And Tough Cookie looks like a Sweetie Pie, for sure!  And you got me to thinking about that..kids and hunger and cookies and meals and how about a once-a-day treat, a sort of meal cookie, served up for those children, maybe a big Captain’s Cookie?  It could happen–a local baker with an oven and some funds and maybe once a day or once a week distribution, and those funds from a 501(c)(3) and it could happen.  I could see you making the funds happen for it, perhaps some of your own to get things started and then donations from folks who see and know your love for the people and the kids in the streets and under the trees.

Patti replied as follows:

There is no setting up a cookie giveaway for the kids in India in my estimation.  There are MILLIONS of kids, one cookie a week would never be enough, you would never get a cookie to each kid, and the cookie stands would never last the onslaught of “bigger” hungry people pushing the kids aside.  Just my opinion …

HERE IS THE REAL ‘KICKER’ ROBB ..

Behind the street children are experienced savvy and ruthless ADULTS THAT WANT ..

MONEY!!These street children are the pawns and the puppets of the elders who produce them and let me assure you .. the elders do NOT want COOKIES .. they want MONEY.

I replied to Robb as follows:

Nice idea Robbie .. A GREAT IDEA ..  but Patti is correct .. Too many kids and too many adults and too much pushing and too much shoving and too many kids and too many adults getting ugly .. real ugly My Man!

WHAT? .. WHAT? .. ONE? .. JUST ONE COOKIE HERE? .. we want more and more ..

Here Robbie is the truth ..

They do NOT want cookies .. They want MONEY MONEY MONEY .. NO cookies .. we want MONEY ..

I have bought packages of cookies for street kids and after 100 appeared out of no where and devoured them .. they wanted more!  Just this last day in India .. I bought one package of cookies and I opened it up and offered to one of the girls a single cookie ..

She wanted money Robbie ..

When she realized NO MONEY was coming .. I had given them 20 Rupees earlier .. THEN AND ONLY THEN .. DID SHE TAKE AND EAT A COOKIE because I insisted she put the cookie IN her mouth and eat it. I said .. “Open wide.” and I inserted the cookie into her mouth.

I WOULD NOT ALLOW HER TO RUN OFF AND SELL IT ..

IT is a brutal world on the streets in India and elsewhere even in the United States.  Here in the United States I have offered many street people an opportunity to sit down with me over a meal my treat. In all my years I have had one take me up on my offer of a meal.

Thanks My Man for a great idea and for this forum to discuss it ..

Love .. Cap .. Love .. Dad ..

POST SCRIPT:

I WILL GET BACK TO YOU ALL CONCERNING MY EFFORTS TO GET A TICKET ON MONGOLIAN AIRLINES TO GO TO MONGOLIA JULY 16th WHEN I HAVE SOME NEWS. SIMON SAID IT ALL LAST NIGHT OVER DINNER; “Cap .. You are dealing here with Mongolian Airlines!” .. Question to myself; “Umm-m-m DO I REALLY WANT TO DO THIS?” .. “Well I have never ever heard of a Mongolian Airliner having trouble now have I?”

Cookies for the kids … sweet idea … unworkable in India. If you open the door with ONE cookie, they will not leave you alone, the original beggar and the hoards that then instantly appear when someone responds to the beggar. And, the adults DO train the kids to be winsome attractions. Sigh. Not an easy thing to not respond to the kids, but necessary to your own safety. Hugs. Patti

There was the man who asked a child in India what he most wanted. The child said .. “A pencil.” And a movement grew up around pencils for the children who wanted them. Much simpler than a food product such as cookies. Will you ever forget the children at Mother Teresa’s school in Calcutta and the steno pad they erased when we left .. Love .. Cap ..
