JUN 9, 15 .. PATIENCE OF A SAINT .. MONGOLIAN AIRLINES .. aka MIAT ..
Back somewhere in the near distant past .. was it April .. I got a calling to go to Mongolia. I finally did a Post on May 6th 2015 showing where Mongolia is with several of Andrej’s nifty maps repeated below for your convenience.
The balloon below points to the capital of Mongolia .. Ulaanbaatar .. or UB for short. I could not show the entire country and the capital’s name at the same time. If I zoomed one-click closer I can show the name Ulaanbaatar but not all of Mongolia.
Last Saturday I began to explore getting a ticket to fly to Ulaanbaatar on July 16th. It was significant that last Saturday was also June the 6th .. also known to the world as D-Day when the allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy France and began the final push to end WW II in the European Theater.
I had my own D-Day with the web site of Mongolian Airlines! The international airline symbol for Mongolian Airlines is MIAT (said as me-at). Unlike the allied forces at Normandy who landed and moved ashore .. I was swept back out to sea as I attempted .. with absolutely no success whatsoever .. to navigate the MIAT web site.
My buddy Simon dutifully noted that .. “Cap! You are dealing here with Mongolian Airlines!”
Now for Saintly patience. Back I have STORMED onto my Mongolian Airlines ‘beach’ and I have SUCCESSFULLY BOOKED and I have paid for my trip to Mongolia leaving Thursday July 16th with a return to Hong Kong on Monday August 3rd. I have my window seats reserved and have printed out my electronic ticket information.

My renewed efforts with Mongolian Airlines were a 10+ on a 0 to 10 scale. They must have been having some generic website problems last Saturday.

YEA!!! Perseverance pays off once again. You are now booked to Mongolia, you have your electronic ticket, you have your seats selected. It pays to keep going back, going back again, and going back again, until it seems MIAT says, “Sigh, this guy is NOT going to give up … let’s issue him a ticket.” I am very happy for you to have accomplished this!
