JUL 11, 15 .. THE HONG KONG CENTRAL GENERAL POST OFFICE (GPO)..

I spend a lot of time writing post cards and letters to friends. As a result of generating this mail I spend a lot of time in Post Offices where ever I am because I have to purchase stamps and have letters weighed to assure the postage is correct.

Below are photos of the Main Post Office in the central business district of Hong Kong also known as the Hong Kong Central GPO.

It is quite an imposing building!

Now let’s step inside of the GPO. The below photos were taken on the street level of the Post Office. Registered mail and much business mail is handled on this level.

It is nice so much attention in Hong Kong is paid to the fine arts. A nice mural.

In the central background of the below photo you can see the above mural.

The below photo looks back from the far end of the above photo. The mural is at my back.

The following photos were taken on the second floor of the Post Office. You ride the elevator shown below up to the second floor. All of my postal business is done on the second floor.

I snapped these photos early in the day to avoid the crowds that appear in the late afternoon.

I have spent a lot of time standing in the queue that forms in the area to the right of these photos.

The below photo looks back from the far end of the above three photos.

A closer view of the posters of mailing information you see on the right above.

The Post Office comes with all of the necessary amenities. A copy machine on the left.

A stamp machine below with a display on the extreme left of items NOT legal to mail.

DSCN1236[1]

A general information counter. Please look it over closely because it is going to become the center of attention in the next sequence of photos to follow below.

DSCN1215[1]

On the left below notice to the right of the clerk some brochures of various types.  These too are going to come-into-play below.

DSCN1214[1]

AND THEN THERE WAS THE WONDERFUL DAY WHEN THE CHILDREN APPEARED DURING ONE OF MY VISITS TO THE POST OFFICE!

They are all-eyes and focused on their teacher.

DSCN1111[1]

Then as you can see in the below photo several of them spotted-me in the background photographing them. Notice below the lad in the blue sweater to the teacher’s left.

DSCN1107[1]

Here they came down the window wall.

AGAIN NOTICE the lad wearing the blue sweater immediately behind their teacher at the head-of-the-line.

DSCN1117[1]

Suddenly this lad shot away from the group and darted in front of me en route to the general information counter. Do you see him below on the bottom right? Notice his two hands are empty.

DSCN1123[1]

I will never know in this lifetime what-on-earth he was doing but I kept snapping-away with my camera.

DSCN1125[1]

He finished his business and back to the main group he began to dart.

What on earth did he get from the information counter clerk? Did she hand him some of the brochures that I note above?

DSCN1126[1]

And he is back to the group. I love the obvious good humor of the teacher!

She seems to be thanking the information counter clerk for her courtesy to the young man.

DSCN1122[1]

I wish that I had had the presence-of-mind to ask the teacher just what this was all about.

I hope this is a HAPPY POST FOR YOU ..

It sure was fun to put it together .. Smiles .. Cap ..

Yet another happy post! I love seeing the GPO…it serves to begin the process of me getting such welcome and precious mail from you! And, the kids … delightful to see them and to chuckle over the precociousness of the little boy in the blue sweater…he was obviously ON A MISSION!! Hugs to you. Patti

Thank You .. YOU have been there with me many times. I am happy that you find it a HAPPY POST. I thought it would come across that way. The lad in the blue sweater has great things ahead of him in this life IF he can get and stay focused like he was at the GPO. I sure wish I knew what his mission was all about. Love ..
