AUG 1, 16 .. DUBAI / ABU DHABI / UAE CHIT CHAT

As I slowly ( very VERY slowly ) work my way through a minimal 4-hour jet lag I continue to focus my attention upon my trip to Hong Kong via Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Is this entire adventure a God-Calling?

Only time will tell. At this point I haven’t a ‘clue-in-a-carload’.

All I KNOW at this writing is: When I attempted to schedule a very straight-forward direct trip from Seattle to Hong Kong leaving at the end of September, a process that should have taken a few minutes, the process lasted one full hour and I was routed from Seattle to Dubai and from Dubai to Hong Kong.

The below map shows a direct flight, Seattle (right red balloon) to Hong Kong (left red balloon). Get on the plane in Seattle and fly West across the Pacific to Hong Kong about 12-hours.

What I ended up getting after my one full-hour of waiting as my Alaska Airlines representative was putting the Seattle to Hong Kong itinerary together was the below.

Fly East (see the above map again) on September 30th from Seattle (left red balloon) to Dubai (center red balloon) a 14+ hour flight. Then I had to take a 3-day layover in Dubai because there were no Dubai / Hong Kong flights October 1st. Then continue East from Dubai to Hong Kong (right red balloon) a 7+ hour flight.

Health / Money / Guts-To-Run. The three MUST HAVE ingredients that your Captain has been blessed with.

IF not daily then ‘almost daily’ I have been fidgeting* and I have been fussing* with the concept of a ‘mere three days’ in Dubai and environs (Abu Dhabi see right red balloon below) or out in the desert of the UAE see left red balloon below.

*Fidgeting and Fussing – Calling Alaska Airlines attempting to get a longer stay in Dubai. ALWAYS being told after a long wait .. “Sir Emirates have no seats available in either business or coach class for the rest of October.”

OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) does have its UP SIDE!

At o’dark o’clock this morning I made yet another call in this series of OCD inquiries to Alaska Airlines and voila I got MY BING BINGO !

After yet another long telephone wait my Alaska Airlines lady said to me on the phone:

“Sir I have a business class seat on Emirates leaving Dubai on Saturday the 22nd of October. Do you want that seat?”

“Oh YES! Grab it Maureen!”

So now I have a full 22-days to find out why I am going to be in the United Arab Emirates and environs red balloon below.

And ‘Oh By The Way’ I have booked my hotel Al Farej Opposite Delhi Restaurant Near Al Futtaim Mosque Deira, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the full 22-days. I will keep this room no matter how much time I spend in Abu Dhabi (and I certainly plan to be in Abu Dhabi for some time) and elsewhere in the UAE (read out in the sand of the dessert).

And?

I have to hand it to you for having the guts to travel to a Muslim country where sharia law is prominent and the threat of terrorism against travelers and expats is a concern. However, knowing you always have your danger wits about you, I’m sure you’ll be fine. I hear the McD in Dubai Media City has old movie posters on the walls which I’m sure you will enjoy. I’ll be looking forward to photos taken from the top of the world’s tallest building.

Interesting. I left a long comment here, with links to things to do in Dubai, yesterday. Something strange is happening in Blogspot. I have wound up with multiple “drafts” each time is correct something in a post. Not sure what’s going on. I’ll see if I can duplicate my missing comment.

I am aware of this ‘glitch’ and Andrej and I are working on getting your long post with ‘links’ published here under comments. You comment is alive and present in the ‘pending’ file of comments awaiting our review. However our review is not getting the comment posted. Smiling. Oh By The Way .. This is my DotNet website and not Blogspot. Our hosting server is not Google who hosts Blogspot.

Cap, I am very excited to see why the universe conspired to get you to Dubai. Your travelogue makes me feel like I am there, enjoying the trip with you. I feel very blessed to have met you and Patti.
