APR 26, 17 .. SMOKEY THE BEAR AND THE IRISES

Patti and I are now in Roswell, New Mexico (NM).

“What’s that ‘Zilla?” ..

“YES ‘Zilla! Roswell, NM! Where the space aliens reportedly / supposedly landed their flying saucer Northwest of Roswell during the first week of July 1947! Yes ‘Zilla, the-one-the-only, Roswell, New Mexico!”

“Yes ‘Zilla! This is the only reason Patti and I came to Roswell. To see the World Famous Roswell UFO Museum.”

Yesterday, Tuesday the 25th of April 2017, Patti and I put-together one really fantastic day.

It Happens.

Once in awhile, From time-to-time, It Happens. All of life’s pieces seem to just fit-together, snugly-and-perfectly.

We drove from Alamogordo NM to Ruidoso (pronounced Rio-Doso). After visiting Ruidoso we drove North to Capitan NM and back South to Hondo NM (a tiny village, the 2nd red balloon from the right below) and then East to Roswell.

The below photo is also helpful to understand our route out of Ruidoso (lower left) North to Capitan (top) and South to Hondo (lower right).

The below photo shows Alamogordo (at the bottom) in the grand scheme of yesterdays road trip to Roswell (off the photo to the right).

On a zero-to-ten scale (ten is tops) our weather was an absolutely phenomenal ten-rating.

As we left Alamogordo NM our weather was cool, overcast, and threatening rain.

At no time yesterday was the weather hot.

Oh My Oh My Oh My but it was very VERY WINDY!

For the most part, it remained cool, overcast, threatening rain, temperatures in the mid-60’s with some in the high 50’s at elevation 7,500-feet.

Yes indeed! We experienced some rain (mild drizzle to a few drops to windshield wipers on our truck working double-time!) and some nice sunshine too.

In Ruidoso (Rio-Doso) we visited the Visitor’s Center to get exact information on how to find our two main objectives of our trip from Alamogordo to Roswell.

Do you all see him below? To the left of Patti!

Below, we are a little bit more-up-close to HIM!

Only YOU can prevent FOREST FIRES ! / sign me  / Smokey

The other day Patti said to me ..

“Cap Oh Cap? Will you please take us to the Smokey Bear Historical Park in Capitan New Mexico?”

“My Dear One! My Dear Patti! Your every single wish is my command! Yes indeed we will visit Smokey’s Historical Park!”

“Cap Oh Cap? Will you also take me to the Hondo Iris Farm in Hondo?”

Above I mentioned the WIND yesterday. You can see it blowing the wind-socks below!

“My Dear One! My Dear Patti! Your every single wish is my command! Yes indeed we will also visit the (now World Famous) Hondo Iris Farm!”

SMOKEY BEAR HISTORICAL PARK, CAPITAN NM

We will begin with our visit to Capitan NM and to Smokey’s Park.

Out-and-off went your Captain, with his Queen Patti riding shotgun beside him.

Out and off the two of us went from the Ruidoso (Rio-Doso) Visitor’s Center up North to Capitan New Mexico and to the (already World Famous) Smokey Bear Historical Park.

Below is a photo telling the history of Smokey the Bear. Smokey the Fire Prevention Bear did NOT originate when the terrified baby cub was rescued in 1950.

I hope each of you will, at the very least, glance at the below story about Smokey. It will touch your heart.

‘When a human-caused fire in 1950 burned 17,000 acres of forest in the Capitan Mountans, a little bear cub was found in a tree, with badly burned paws.’

Terrified, the tiny, badly burned, 5-pound, 2-1/2-month-old bear cub, had lost its mother and was clinging to a tree trunk.

The above, and the below photos, sure tell the beginning of Smokey’s Story.

These very VERY special three photos were taken in the Gift Shop. We enjoyed our visit in the Gift Shop.

We have arrived.

The below photos show the gift shop.

Lots and lots and yes, lots of small Smokeys.

Now we are going into the Historical Park, a separate entity from the above Gift Shop. Don’t miss either IF you get to Capitan NM!

The bottom-line, the total cost, for the two-of-us to enter a phenomenal facility was, Oh Yes Indeed, only four U.S. dollars ($4.00)!

A very nice, 11-minute, video.

Shown on the video.

Do you want a nice facility? Here you have a very nice facility!

Now we will step out into the surrounding park and garden.

Cacti are dominant here in the U.S. Southwest!

Looking back at the exterior of the Visitor’s Center.

Smokey’s final resting place.

One lonely, terrified, 5-pound little bear cub, clinging to a tree, while the fire raged all around him.

“Yes Oh Yes! Yes each and every single one of you following along here. Yes I have barely touched-the-surface as to my MANY photos taken at Smokey’s Historical Park.”

BUT ..

Right now, at this moment, this is the best I can do with Smokey. The Hondo Iris Farm is, a tad frantically, calling to us.

“Dad? Oh Dad? What about us Dad” / signed / The Hondo Iris Farm.

THE HONDO IRIS FARM, HONDO NM

Here we are my Dearest Patti.

Disclaimer : Here come more Iris photos than you may have ever seen!

AGAVE Cactus! What on earth are YOU doing in here?

Dad! We rule the Southwest!

Oh My Oh My! The time has come to wrap-this-up!

“Cap and Patti please come and visit with us.” /Signed/ Your Alien Friends

We hope you liked this Post.

To heck with the maps and Smokey! Where are the extraterrestrials?

By the way, when a Forest Service burn got away from them down here and almost burned down one of their campgrounds and some homes, a tee shirt appeared: “Remember! Only the Forest Service can start Forest Fires!

Too funny. Patti and I came away from Roswell firmly believing that, yes indeed, there were extraterrestrials. Smiles .. Cap
