MAY 4, 17 .. WHEN ‘THE CALLING’ COMES, IT COMES SUDDENLY.
I am now making firm plans to return first to Hong Kong, lower red balloon, and then North from Hong Kong to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, upper red balloon.

Read the title to this Post. When ‘THE CALLING’ comes to me, it usually comes suddenly and instantly.
I am aiming to be in Mongolia by July spending a minimum of several weeks in Hong Kong before going North. I am actually toying with the idea of renting another flat in Hong Kong.
We would ‘wish-our-lives-away’ if we could wouldn’t we? I wish I was over there right now this instant.
Ah yes.
Alas alak.
First I have to travel up to Detroit, Michigan, to get my GMC Suburban, Black Beauty, settled back down after this past 5-plus months on-the-road.
Then I plan* to fly up to Anchorage.
*All of you who know me, know what me-planning-something means. It means : Stay Tuned Sports Fans.
I plan to go very light. NO laptop.

One and only one change of clothes.
I haven’t a clue at to whether or not ‘Zilla is still following along here. IF you are my Good Man, I’d like to discuss with you your assisting me with some airline miles.
I have written Patti a love note stressing that I would like to have her riding shotgun beside me. She may very well, after the past five-plus months, want to just sit still and settle. I understand this full-well. Hong Kong and Mongolia both will just be a tad-lesser should you stay home.
And? And? And?

I am very glad to hear you are up to returning to Hong Kong (which I know you love) and Mongolia (ditto). That says much about both your physical and mental health.
But, isn’t Hong Kong hotter than blazes during the summer?
Good luck prying Patti out of Alaska during the summer.
Good Luck on getting poor Patti back-on-the-road again after the past five-plus-months huh? Yes, the summer is not the best time weather-wise to visit Hong Kong. But the clock-is-ticking for me and I MUST get back while I want to and feel I am able to do so.
I am also finding it almost impossible to think of you with ONE PIECE OF LUGGAGE.
I will have more than one piece BUT they will, I hope, be light. I hope to have just one major bag and one carry on with a personal item as well.
I’m also remembering with great fondness that little restaurant around the corner from your flat in Hong Kong.
Oh Yes Pho TAI. I could go to the end-of-this-road in Hong Kong.

Of course I follow along with your blogs as you always have great stories to tell along with a great array of lovely photographs that go along with your journey! Always super nifty!!
I knew you would get off your bump and load up your bags (light trip stuff) and plan another trip. I do hope your Doctor has given you some advice about traveling? I know you stated he said not to lift more than 15 lbs, etc, etc – is that still his advice??
In any event when you have some idea of your travel agenda we can work on some mileage for your upcoming trip.
On a side note I would take your laptop; you’ve got it down pat – it’s a great buddy to take on a long trip such as yours – It would be like you not taking your cell phone – that would be a mistake (in my humble opinion).

‘Zilla, the laptop is just TOO TOO HEAVY. I can not possibly lug it around. I have NEVER had a laptop with me over in Hong Kong and Mongolia. I am an expert at the library in Hong Kong and in my room in Mongolia I have the use of a desktop. NOT an option to take the heavy laptop. Of course I will have two cell phones over there.
OUTSTANDING if we can work a deal on some miles when I have some dates.
No contact with a Doctor. I must not lift things that are too heavy. Smiles Buddy .. Cap

A note to add to the above comment, regarding the cell phone comment, I realize you will buy one (or use your previous trip phone from Asia) as you have figured out the best method to use a phone from the country you travel in. But still taking your laptop I would think should be a “priority” item while traveling overseas!?! Think positive, think clearly, think access and communications…

This past trip to Dubai is the first time ever EVER that I have had a laptop with me. I KNOW how to do things withOUT my own laptop. Be it in India, Hong Kong, Mongolia. NOT an option to take it ‘Zilla.
Yes YES I have three (3) Nokia cell phones that I have used in Hong Kong, Mongolia and even in India. Smiles .. Cap
Zilla, he really does have it covered re traveling without a laptop. Going to the lovely Hong Kong library to use the computer there is but a hop, skip, and a bus ride. Big part of his day. If he stays at the HOMY Inn in Kowloon, there’s a computer there for him to use. Ditto with his room in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Other places, security is an issue. One less chain and lock he has to drag with him.
