Epilogue :

epilogue : noun

1. A concluding part added to a literary work, as a novel.

2. A speech, usually in verse, delivered by one of the actors after the conclusion of a play.

“Well Gullible, I have written this epilogue after I wrote this Post but I want to put it here at the front.”

“Then call it a prologue Cap.”

prologue : noun

1. A preliminary discourse; a preface or introductory part of a discourse, poem, or novel.

2. An introductory speech, often in verse, calling attention to the theme of a play.

Prologue : Now that I have finished this Post, I will call this epilogue a prologue. Yesterday I showed exterior (outside) photos. In this Post, I am showing interior (inside) photos because yesterday was Memorial Day, a holiday, I could not enter any buildings to shoot interior photos.

I now understand in hindsight what got me started with such passion to write these MEMORIAL DAY 2017 Posts.

First, I visited Los Alamos, New Mexico and I really got involved studying the history of the Manhattan Project. 

Second, I find that, well it seems like it to me, Pueblo, Colorado, is somewhat fiercely patriotic. And my patriotic energy just suddenly took-off yesterday with my first MEMORIAL DAY 2017 Post which I did not, to my satisfaction, complete. I finished it. I did NOT complete it.

My visit to Los Alamos was utterly fascinating.

WHEW! Thanks Los Alamos for all of the historical exhibits, movies, and knowledgeable staff members available to every visitor.

Now back to MEMORIAL DAY 2017

Yesterday, as I was doing my re-enactment of entering Pueblo on Saturday the 20th of May 2017, I completely forgot that, before I got to the Pueblo City Monument, I spied a water tower off to my right, way out in a field. I thought I saw some letters on it but, driving on the freeway, I did not have the time to stop and look more closely at it.

Will you all just look at the prairie-land out here in Southeastern Colorado just South of Pueblo!

Again, as I ‘flew’ past the below scene on I-25, I thought I saw some words on the water tower way out there in the field.

Yesterday I went back to study the Pueblo City Monument.

To get the below distant photo of the above monument, I had to go South on I-25, turn around, and come back on I-25 North.

As I just wrote above, to tell you the God’s Truth, I had totally forgotten about the water tower.

So?

While I was in the general vicinity of the water tower, I snapped a few photos of it.

Oh yes! Your Captain found the water tower’s access road!

THE HOME of HEROES

Whew! It Is Official. Pueblo, Colorado, is

“The Home of Heroes”.

I don’t live here in Pueblo. I may never again return. But for one brief moment-in-time I am ..

One very proud, Pueblo, Colorado, part-time resident.

My patriotic juices are really flowing.

In the Marine Corps I was taught that you live and you may very well die for three groups of people.

• Your fellow Marines on your left and on your right, in front of you and behind you.
• The Marines who fought and who died when you were a child and could not fight for our country.
• The children of today who themselves are too young to fight for our country.

I can vividly remember, back during the Naval Battle of Midway, June 4th through 7th, 1942, when our Navy basically demolished the naval forces of Japan ( Military historian John Keegan called it “the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare.”).

During the Battle of Midway, the Aircraft Carrier Yorktown, CV-5, was lost.

I had made a Strombecker Model of The Yorktown. Upon hearing that the Yorktown had been lost at Midway, I solemnly, and I mean solemnly, went into the bathroom in my home. I filled the bathtub full. Then, holding my little wooden model of The Yorktown, bow first, I sank her in my bathtub.

I was 5-years 9-months of age in June of 1942. I can recall the above events as if they were yesterday.

I hope some millions of others on this MEMORIAL DAY of 2017, give their thanks to President Harry S. Truman.

*The first Atomic Bomb (The Trinity Test) was detonated at the Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range, New Mexico, and it was code-named The Gadget. The other two were Little Boy (Hiroshima) and Fat Man (Nagasaki).

Whew. Where was I. This is intense and this is personal.

HEROS PLAZA .. NATIONAL

MEDAL OF HONOR MEMORIAL

The two below photos were taken of the memorial outside of the Pueblo Convention Center.

Today I revisited the HEROES PLAZA. Today I was able to enter the Convention Center (it was closed yesterday) to see the exhibits inside that I was not able to see yesterday.

Inside the Convention Center we go. Truly it is gorgeous.

In the below photo, on the far right side, do you all see the Plaque that says Pueblo at its top?

“What’s that ‘Zilla?” ..  “No. There was nothing more for me to photograph and to show you at the Convention Center. In fact I walked into the Convention Center business office and I asked them where all of the other exhibits were located.”

“Sir.” .. “The exhibits that you are looking to see are all housed over at the Center For American Values.”

The above words amount to one of the greatest UNDER statements that I have heard in some time.

When I walked into the below room, I was absolutely, totally flabbergasted.

In the above and below photos, on the right, you can see a man wearing a blue shirt. His name is Gerry. I was in the Marine Corps from 1958 to 1964. Gerry was in ‘The Corps’ from 1959 to 1963. The two of us had a lot-to-talk-about. He is a volunteer who helps on Tuesdays.

Below I have saved some of the best for last.

These two photos will assure you that, YES INDEED, some Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients do, live-to-tell their stories. Talk about one proud fraternity!

In yesterday’s MEMORIAL DAY 2017 Post, I showed (with some emotion) the below photo and stated that I knew one Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient.

Today, at The Center For American Values, thanks to their wonderful High-Tech setup, I was able to do some amazing research on my associate.

AND? Thanks to my former Marine Volunteer Gerry, I was able to access the below computer to check out my friend.

My photos did not turn out as I would have liked BUT you will get-the-feeling for his service.

Their hours are from 10am to 4pm and I was not able to go back and re-shoot the above photos. I want to publish this today, the day after MEMORIAL DAY 2017. I may return tomorrow and try to get better photos. If I am able to do so, I will just quietly slip them into this Post.

And?

The time has come to call this Post a done-deal.
