JUL 7, 17 .. SAFE INTO HONG KONG ..

Miss Hong Kong seems very happy to see me. She is shedding tears of joy.

TRANSLATION : The summer MONSOON RAINS are here and on a short walk I got soaked to the skin. I got absolutely sopping wet just walking two short blocks to purchase 10 liters of safe bottled drinking water. Rain or shine I must do this and I got the water and I am good to go.

I will be here at the YMCA in Kowloon a minimum of 7-nights. Paid for and locked in my beloved dormitory area.

My flight here from Seattle was one of my VERY BEST EVER IN MY LIFE flights to Hong Kong. I slept like a top. I awoke and we were in Hong Kong or so I thought. Wrong. We were only 6-hours into the flight. Back to sleep like a dead man. I again awoke in Hong Kong. Wrong. Three hours had passed and I still had three more hours to go.

The meals back in the cattle coach section rivaled any meal I have had in Business / First Class.

TRANSLATION : I am NOT a fussy eater. I love food and I loved my cattle coach meals. Three (3) count them meals.

TO PATTI ..

IMPOSSIBLE TO CALL YOU MY DEAR ONE. I did everything in my considerable arsenal of abilities and struck out. I finally asked the lad here in the YMCA who was my porter to use his cell phone to call Nicky. Nicky WILL be at the 8:30AM meeting at the Mariner’s Club in the morning.

“Yes Patti called me Cap!” when I asked Nicky if you had called him My Dear One and THANKS FOR DOING THAT.

I will God Willing have my own China Mobile cell phone tomorrow. I could NOT NOT NOT buy a PCCW phone card.

At my stage of life I can pretty much do as I like. There is no place on this earth that I would rather be than here in my beloved Hong Kong.

I am paying for the broken hip.

TRANSLATION : I paid a wheel chair attendant $200 Hong Kong dollars to wheel me from the plane to the baggage carousel. Then she carried my bags and me to a taxi. I paid the taxi $300 Hong Kong to ride right to the door of the YMCA. I paid a porter here in the YMCA $100 Hong Kong dollars to carry my bags up to my dorm room. In the days-of-old I did all of this myself and paid only $100 Hong Kong dollars for the entire trip to the YMCA or the Homy Inn or to Mercer Street in Hong Kong.

Lord God In Heaven Above : It sure is easy when someone else (wheel chair attendant, cab driver and hotel porter) performs all of the heavy lifting. My main suitcase weighed 20 KG (or 45 lbs) and my carry on weighed 9KG (or 20 lbs).

I had given up all hope of ever in my life feeling this good. I had given up all hope of ever in my life being back here in Hong Kong.

Sorry Mister Lenovo that you could not come along.

Witness THIS :

Once again I have figured out how to do the internet out of the country with no laptop.

I ain’t pretty but it is SOMETHING.

SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR.

No I did not fly business class. I had it all set up and decided not to use the miles ‘Zilla had provided me with. I have to be honest, I was almost as comfortable in the enhanced (for an extra $109) cabin section. Truly I was. Smiles. Cap

    Hi Cap,
Happy landings in Hong Kong! I’m sure a little rain didn’t brother you as you were probably floating about 6 inches off the ground as you love HK and upon your safe arrival you couldn’t be happier!! You were very smart to use all the friendly support at the airport, taxi, etc to save a lot of pressure off your hip! A very good way to start, think smart, take your time, enjoy the scenery, enjoy your meals – and don’t TRIP – please don’t trip! Your first challenge is ok and doing very good – what’s your plan on a daily basis and including travel in Mongolia, etc, etc, etc.
Take your time, have fun, enjoy your meals and visits with all your friends!!
    Zilla

I have to tell you what a joy it was to leave the heavy lifting to my wheelchair attendant, the cab driver and my YMCA porter. Whewie. Amazing the difference between catching an air conditioned taxi right to my YMCA hotel as against wrestling all of my bags to a train, boarding and deboarding the train, and then onto and off a shuttle bus which would have dropped me a short block from the YMCA with my bags. Then wrestling them from the shuttle bus stop to my YMCA Hotel. Exceptional and very necessary decision. Future plans are fluid. Smiles .. Cap

Glad you are safely in your beloved Hong Kong. It was scary last night to hear the initial few words of a news report that a Delta flight leaving Seattle had a crazy person on board and had to return to Seattle … then I heard that flight was going to Beijing. Whew! Nice that you got so much rest on your flight to possibly be more functional on the ground today. A BIG thank you to Nicky for letting you use his phone to call me a bit ago! Please say hello to Mr. Yuen for me when you get Singapore Rice Noodle at his yummy location. Be safe. Watch where your feet are going. So much love. Patti

I will have to read about the Delta, Seattle to Beijing, flight and that drama. I am trying to focus on where my feet are going BUT in the YMCA room I have come close to tripping over the corner of the bed and over a ledge in the bathroom. No rest on that score. Wore my bicycle helmet today. So happy Nicky and I got you on the phone this morning. So happy I now have a fully functioning (voice and text message) China Mobile cell phone. Much Love. Cap

Cap, I hope you have rethought your choice of footwear for airport check ins. It is a simple matter and could make that potentially disastrous activity much safer. As I recommended, a lightweight pair of loafers, or something along those lines, with no laces. Slip in, slip out–and pardon the pun. Perhaps I should say Easy In, Easy Out instead.

I, too, am glad to hear you availed yourself of assistance and made the trip much easier on yourself. We do reach a point in life where we must subjugate our egos to make life easier.

Carry on, Cap. These are the best days of your life.

I tried, I failed, to purchase size 14 (my size) velcro closing shoes while in Detroit. They had to be special ordered and did not arrive in time. I did NOT like slip on slip off shoes. I tried them and they felt unsafe. I like a snug fit for my footwear.

I agree. What a brilliant move on my part to let the airport wheelchair porter and cab driver and hotel bellman do all of the lifting of my bags and NOT take the train.

So far so great 2 day into the trip. Thanks so much for following along here Gullible! Cap
