SEP 14, 17 .. MICHIGAN’S KEWEENAW PENINSULA .. COPPER HARBOR

This is the first of two Posts I am publishing today, September 14th, 2017.

One very short month ago today, Monday, August the 14th, 2017, while in Ulaanbatar, Mongolia, I felt some distress in my lower left abdomen. My life was about to change.

Another very short month later, here Patti and I are, together, enjoying life and the good times.

We are in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

A closer look at where we are. We are staying in the Houghton, Michigan area. Many of the below photos were taken in Copper Harbor.

The Keweenaw Peninsula Visitor Center. The many visitor centers we visit, in addition to Trip Advisor, are invaluable in helping us find attractions of interest.

Into Copper Harbor we arrive.

Copper Harbor has its own Visitor / Welcome Center.

The (almost.. but not quite) end of the road.

Above I wrote .. The (almost.. but not quite) end of the road.

It is the end of the paved road. However, it does continue onward as a dirt road but, after driving about a quarter of a mile further, Patti and I agreed to turn back.

The below drive is a must-see attraction in the Copper Harbor area.

The Mariner North is a must-visit restaurant in Copper Harbor.

Two phenomenal salads. Asian Chicken and Apple Chicken.

The following photos were taken South of Copper Harbor at Bete Grise Preserve.

Bete Grise Preserve.

Lake Superior.

How nice is this?

The Historic Town of Gay, Michigan.

The historic smoke stack is all that remains of a mining site.

There you have it.

Now, IF you want to read my ‘medical rant’, continue to scroll down. IF you don’t want to read it, you will miss nothing.

Still Smiling..

Patti and Cap

We have made a major change in our travel plans.

    Hi Cap and Patti,

I’d recommend checking out this view of Lake Superior sand dunes by Grand Marais. It is one of my favorite views of all time. (It is probably a 1/4th mile flat dirt walk to the overlook.)

Grand Marais, Michigan is also a great little town.

THANKS SO MUCH CHAD. I appreciate your interest in our travels. You, of all my friends, certainly KNOW this area having lived up here for some time. No way can Patti walk a 1/4 mile anywhere.

Keep following my TRAVEL plans. I am positive we will work in an in-person visit Chad. Be it in Royal Oak or even Toledo.

You’d probably also really like the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point, MI on lake Superior if you have not ever been there. They have a lot on the Edmund Fitzgerald among other things. It is a bit pricy $13/per adult or $12 if you have a AAA card.

If you would go there the Little Falls Inn in Paradise, 10 miles south of Whitefish Point is a good place to eat.

You’d probably enjoy the menu (and food) at the Dogpatch restaurant in Munising, right across from the Holiday Gas station at the M-28 blinker.

Call me if you are interested in any of those things and want any clarifications. I off the next few days and mostly available.

Thanks Chad for your suggestions. I recall Gordon Lightfoot and his famous song dating back to the winter of 1975 when I was living in West Germany, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, one of my all-time favorite songs Chad.

As I reply Chad, on Friday morning the 15th of September, Patti and I plan to DROP straight SOUTH to Escanaba today staying two nights until Sunday. Then we plan to drive across US Hwy 2 to the Bridge and stay in Mackinaw City for two nights. This, two nights in Mackinaw City, will allow us to go out to Mackinac Island for a day trip on Monday. This will pretty much rule-out the above visits.

Chad, I nicked myself shaving the other day and MY blood ran ‘Michigan Blue’.

Keep On Keeping On Chad .. Cap
