JAN 24, 18 .. HELLO AGAIN HELLO .. NEIL DIAMOND’S GREAT SONG

Hello, again, hello
Just called to say hello
I couldn’t sleep at all tonight
And I know it’s late
I couldn’t wait

Hello, my friend, hello
Just called to let you know
I think about you every night
When I’m here alone
And you’re there at home
Hello

Can’t you all just ‘hear’ Neil, belting out another of his great hit songs?

Trust your Ol’ Captain here when I say I KNOW what real depression is. REAL DEPRESSION is : When you are laying on the floor, in a closet, with the door closed. That’s a ten on my depression scale. A five on your Captain’s depression scale means you are not able to roll over in bed when your side aches from being in one position and you literally have to throw yourself out of bed onto the floor IF you need to go to the restroom.

Yesterday I told Patti that, on a zero-to-ten scale, with zero being just that, zero, de nada, nothing, and ten being the absolute worst ( laying on the floor, in a closet, with the door closed ) my current depressive episode would rank NO HIGHER than a measly (contemptibly small, meager, or slight ) insignificant two.

The problem is, I just don’t feel very well. I am sorely lacking in my usual get-up-and-go vitality.

But, although I am vegetating, I am not a vegetable. I am not even close to being a vegetable.

We ARE getting out.

To wit..

The U.S. National Ski Championships out at Kincaid Park.

Resolution Park.

Westchester Lagoon.

Margaret Eagen Sullivan Park.

Wonderful Nature Center visit.

We are NOT starving. Oh no no no. We are NOT NOT starving.

We are keeping our minds busy and occupied. I am reading / reading / reading to Patti.

AM missing Mongolia.

My own little ‘Ger’.

What oh what to do?

Got it.

Find a real local Mongolian, right here in Anchorage.

“Sir. Kind Sir. Can I have a photo with you Sir?” ..

“Ah-h-h-h sure Captain.”

Bottom Line : Don’t worry too very much about my lack of activity here or on blogspot. I simply am unable to ‘force’ myself to write or to publish website posts. But don’t give up, I am about to publish (a little later today) on blogsport a very long post on the U.S. National Cross Country Skiing Championships 2018.

Yes. We two are, deep deep down, still smiling.

Cap and Patti.

Okay, Cap. Time to cowboy up. You start out with the lyrics to a Neil Diamond song, and say you are in a mild depressive state.

Are you aware that Diamond just announced his retirement from touring? Do you know why he retired?

Parkinsons. That’s why. Now that’s something to be depressed about. It’s not only the tremors. It affects cognition and coordination. It sometimes causes hallucinations.

Diamond says he will continue to write songs.

If he can do that while dealing with a life-threatening disease that destroys you from the inside, you can COWBOY UP and go exploring, rejoicing in every day that you wake up.

    Little tough love here, friend.

PS: All those food photos make me hungry.

I chuckle at my food photos making you hungry. YOUR food photos make us hungry too and are in great abundance on your travel Posts where ever you go.

Depression is an extremely difficult and complicated equation to grasp and even more so to solve. More often than not, one can NOT think one’s way out of a depressive episode. Certain ACTIONS can help many of us including me. Exercise can and WILL grant (but only) temporary relief. Luckily I am able to remain functional. As I wrote in the Post, a real, severe, episode puts people into a closet on the floor with the closet door shut. Again, as I wrote, I full well realize that I am a scant 2 on the 0 to 10 depressive scale. Thanks for your support. Cap

I disagree, Cap, and I speak from many experiences with overwhelming depression in my younger years. Had I known then what the mind can do, I could have spared myself much emotional pain.

As for being in the fetal position on the floor in a closet, that’s what writers do when their works are about to go public for (gasp) everyone to see and critique. Naked before the world.
