JUN 1, 18 .. PATTI IS RECOVERING FROM HER ORAL SURGERY

Patti is really happy to be ‘back-home-in-Alaska’.

A few photos of the view from our condo living room window. It really is a nice view and both of us enjoy it.

Patti is especially enjoying seeing ‘Her Tree’ flowering-out.

A close up of ‘Patti’s Tree’.

The ‘cycles-of-life’. Patti’s tree has now lost its flowers. However, our view remains wonderful!

“Patti? Are you happy to be back home in Alaska?”

A picture speaks a thousand words doesn’t it?

Yesterday, Thursday, May 31st, Patti underwent oral surgery to deal with a serious issue having to do with one of her ‘tooth implants’ dating back to year 2007.

I asked Patti IF it would be OK to, using her own words, share with you about it.

Patti wrote the below words last night, Thursday evening, May 31st.

All went well today, under the circumstances.  Dr. Reinbold took out the 2007 implant and cleaned out the space extensively.  He said it was filled with puss and ugly looking matter.  He put in a bone graft taken from medically supplied bone, put a membrane of some kind over that and stitched it closed.  I am on cold, clear foods this evening, which turned out to be plain yogurt and some ice cream.  Tomorrow I can eat soft foods … but for two months, no nuts, crackers, or anything else that can break off into small little bits which could get into the gums.  I have a follow-up appointment in two weeks.  He said the other implant looked … ummm … okay, but he will keep an eye on that one as well.
I start on salt water rinses tomorrow, and started on 5 days of an antibiotic today.  He gave me some pain pills but with the numbness over with, I am not feeling any pain.

Off to get some sleep.  Again, thank you all for your support and good wishes.

So, in Patti’s-own-words, there you have it.

As I write, Friday morning, June 1st, Patti is sleeping.

Ah yes! Getting old ain’t for sissies! (Thank You Bette Davis)

Get better soon, Patti. BUT! Your definition of “cold, clear foods” isn’t my definition of cold, clear foods. Yogurt is cold, but not clear, i.e., you can’t see through it or see light (opaque)through it. Neither is ice cream, but ice cream is always exempt. I would have thought Gatorade as being clear and cold and perhaps Jello-O. Anyway, I guess you’ll be drinking a lot of protein shakes and Ensure for a while after you are allowed them. And no tuna subs from Subway, either.

Ah, but Google is our friend, isn’t it: For 2 days after surgery, drink liquids and eat soft foods only. Such as milkshakes, eggnog, yogurt, cooked cereals, cottage cheese, smooth soups, mashed potatoes, refried beans, ice cream, pudding, fruit smoothies and protein shakes.

I guess those are after the cold, clear regimen.

Another site suggested mac and cheese! Applesauce! The possibilities are endless.

Thanks so much for your comments and interest. Pasta is a great suggestion (mac and cheese) we had not yet thought of. Oatmeal for breakfast is soft. Oh Yes on the Ensure (or generic Costco Kirkland brand). So far I am amazingly PAIN FREE. Patti

Dear Patti, Hope all continues well and no pain. Enjoyed the view from your window and your tree in Spring. Caught the first half of last nights game then caught a meeting. Caught the result on the way home. That player will be remembered for his big mistake. All for now, Love, Greg.

So far, so very good, for Patti as regards the pain-front Greg and, so far, lack thereof. Now, on to the NBA and basketball. I have mixed feelings about Cleveland and the Warriors. Having lived in San Francisco / Oakland, California, for 33-years, and having gone to a lot of games in San Francisco back in the 1960’s when the Warriors moved from Philadelphia in 1962, and played in the old Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, I am sort of loyal to them. The BUT is for LeBron James. I’d like to see him get another ring, so there you have it. YES it hurt for Cleveland to lose on a bone-head, not-thinking play by a seasoned veteran. So nice you are going to meetings Greg. Smiles from the two of us. Cap and Patti
