Next Tuesday, October the 16th, I am scheduled to fly to Seattle, Washington. Next Wednesday, October the 17th, I am scheduled to fly to Seoul, South Korea. Then on October 23rd to Mongolia. Then on to Irkutsk in Southern Russian Siberia.
I have things-to-do. I am attempting to keep-my-focus on what I need to do and what I need to pack for this upcoming major trip.
In short : I do not need, nor do I want, any DRAMA.
Patti and I went out this afternoon to our local Ulu Factory to pick out an Ulu knife for Kitty, a friend in the San Francisco Bay Area. We got Kitty an Ulu knife and a special, very nice, wooden bowl that mates-with the Ulu knife to mince garlic and other spices and herbs in cooking.
Then we went to the Post Office to price mailing it with us (1) wrapping it individually or (2) putting it into a Postal Service flat rate box. By using the flat rate box we will save $4. We did not have tape nor Kitty’s address so we could not do-it-on-the-spot.
Then we went to our local Carr’s (Safeway) Supermarket to purchase some items.
All was well. All was swell.
Whodda Ever Thunk that DRAMA was fast approaching we two innocent souls.
“Lord God of Abraham, Creator of Heaven and Earth, I did not want, nor did I need this!”
We called our roadside service at about 2:25pm. The tow truck arrived about 4:25pm. It seemed like a very long two hour wait. We got to our Chevrolet Dealer around 4:45pm.
Mike, my Service Consultant, who I have known for quite some time, said to me ..
“Cap. We are looking at maybe next Monday the 15th. I am absolutely swamped with service orders from customers wanting to prepare their vehicles for our fast approaching winter.”
I thought to myself ..
“There is no way that I can be without wheels as I get ready for my trip.”
“Mike, set me up with a rental car.”
Well that is that sez Baba Kaps ..
Here is what went right.
This happened about 1-mile from our home here in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Just last Monday Patti and I were about 80-miles from home down near the Kenai Peninsula in a semi-remote area with (maybe) no cell phone service. This happened about 5 blocks from my very own Chevrolet Dealer with whom I have a service history and working relationship. It happened at a time that allowed us to get into the Dealer before they closed for the day.
It couldda been a lot worse believe me.
“What happened Captain?”
Our truck would not start. I turned on the lights and viola, my headlights were bright and strong so the batteries (I have two under the hood) were good and strong. I muse that after 19-years I need a new starter motor.
Better this happened with yours truly here and not to Patti alone with me over yonder.
Whodda thunk this was in our day.
Over And Out .. With lots to be very grateful for.
