NOV 6, 18 .. FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH

For What It’s Worth ..

I have published a 94-photo Post on blogspot detailing a long walk I took today. Below is a link that will take you right there. I hope you will take a look at it. I was up all night preparing it.

http://bobbacaps.blogspot.com/2018/11/nov-6-18-irkutsk-my-first-major-walking.html

As the above Post on blogspot will show, my love affair with Irkutsk continues. I really am enjoying just-being-here. The city is rich in culture and history. So far everyone I have come into contact with has been polite. More-than-a-few have been effusively* warm.

An example of effusive is when you are so grateful and happy that you hug someone and thank them many times.

I can begin with my translator here. He is one fine and great human being. A+Number One.

And right beside and with him, the gentleman who invited me to come to Irkutsk some 3-years ago. Below is a painting of him in his younger years.

I mean to tell all of you, I am in good hands here.

I absolutely love my apartment and the historic area of Irkutsk where it is located. The Wi-Fi here in my apartment is absolutely beyond any Wi-Fi that I have ever experienced in the U.S. and this includes state-of-the-art library Wi-Fi.

Absolutely! The bottom could fall out of my idyllic visit here in Irkutsk. One fall. One microscopic germ. A serious automobile accident. Poof.

That is why the song, You Only Live Twice, is so profound and applicable and apropos for me.

You only live twice, or so it seems
One life for yourself, and one for your dreams
You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is its name
And love is a stranger who’ll beckon you on
Don’t think of the danger or the stranger is gone
This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice

Oh Yes. There are tremendous unknowns and dangers here. IF I was to really get into them the love affair would end. You can’t have faith and danger at the same time.

I had one amazing walk yesterday. I focused on a building a mile or so away and walked to it.

I could have fallen. (I didn’t ) What would happen if I fell and really injured myself. (It would be a mess ) Think of the germs and foreign organisms on the Tram. (I didn’t catch anything, at least if I did it has not appeared ). I was out late and in the dark in a large and foreign city. (Even my translator cautioned me not to stay out when he dropped me off ). I sent him and Patti texts that I was home OK.

What if ..

Etc etc et al ad nauseum.

You can’t focus on the excitement of the love affair and, at the same time, court the danger.

Time to lay down. I was up all night working on the above blogspot Post.

Make one dream come true, You only life twice ..

Definitely focus on the excitement, the warmth and welcoming care you are receiving from those who have taken you under their arms, the victory of finally being there … but, be careful, stay focused, especially when you are out. You are blessed. You are also responsible for your own well-being! Walk each path with care … love, Patti

    Some things from Trip Advbidor:

#1 of 263 things to do in Irkutsk–Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater. You got it! I expect to see that you went to a performance there.

Znamensky Monastery–#3 of 263 things to do in Irkutsk –Behind the main cathedral is a small cemetery. One of the graves – the most remarkable is Shelikhov’s ( who was one of the first governors of the Russian Alaska).

Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God–#4 of 263 things to do in Irkutsk
Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God– best way to get there is catch Tram #4 – only 15 rubles. Otherwise it is a long walk through a very down at heel industrial area. Church is in great condition and spectacular inside.

    And for eats:

So many places to eat in Irkutsk. Here’s one that caught my eye:

    Brasserie bbb

Oh My! Yes! Do they ever have such magnificent edifices here in Irkutsk. Thanks. I plan to, one of these days, take a tour of Irkutsk. I’ve been to two meetings in these ‘High Formal’ Churches. Smiles .. Cap
