NOV 8, 18 .. MY VERY FIRST .. QUOTE – IRKUTSK MINI CRISIS – END QUOTE

Patti seems to be doing relatively well after her fall at Costco yesterday evening. Stiff and sore but basically, OK.

What I am now going to share does NOT, in any way, qualify (according to the dictionary definition of the word crisis) as a legitimate crisis.

But for me it certainly was a crisis.

Late today my laptop, my Lenovo computer, locked up. It would not respond to any of my actions.

I would click onto an icon such as Google. Nothing. I would double click. I would right click. I would use a ‘naughty word’ or two or even three of them. No response. No action.

Then I would click onto the Windows icon. Nothing. I would double click. I would right click. No response. No action. This is bad because the Windows icon takes me to the option to shut off my laptop. The Windows icon takes me to my desktop.

My camera would try to load. Nothing.

I don’t know what you call this aggravating computer phenomenon, but I describe it as,  “My computer is locked up.”

This was bad because a multi-lingual friend was coming over to my apartment to help me with some English into Russian Big Book translations. I needed to be on-line to access the Big Book. No internet, no Big Book, a wasted trip on his part and a loss of some money because I pay him for a taxi and for his time.

After an hour-or-two (of off again, on again, efforts to get access to my laptop) I did the only thing I could think of to do. I pressed down (firmly) on its on / off button and held it down until it shut itself off. I waited. Turned it back on and ..

VOILA !

I was, and I remain, back-in-business.

Today was my once-a-month Residronate day, the one day I take the medicine for my male osteoporosis issue. Having taken the medicine, I did my usual long walk (back to the bridge over the Angara River and home again).

My friend came over as planned. We did a lot of translation work. We two went for a long walk to a shopping mall to get me some electrical items (Russian extension cord and three way electrical outlet) and when back, he finished with our translation project.

He turned my laptop and its keyboard into a Russian machine and away he typed in Russian! When he left to go home, I forgot to ask him (before-he-left) to return my laptop and keyboard back to English. As you all can see, I somehow was able to manage to do this myself.
