NOV 18, 18 .. A LITTLE CHIT-CHAT

Sunday, the 18th of November, 2018, has been a quiet day for me. After the activity of yesterday, I was pretty much drained of energy. I more or less just relaxed here in my apartment today, I took several naps and also did some work here on my laptop.

Because I really needed to get some things at the store, in the late afternoon I gathered myself up and went out on a major visit to a local shopping center.

I say a major visit because it entailed me getting onto a Tram. For the time being I am only riding one Tram Line, the Number 1 Tram that goes to the railway station and the one that I discovered November the 6th when I walked from my apartment all the way to the Irkutsk Railway Station.

In the above two photos, you can see that it is the Number 1 Tram Line.

AS HARD AS THIS IS TO BELIEVE ..

IT HAPPENS ..

Once in awhile .. Once in a GREAT WHILE .. A Tram is not jam-packed crowded full.

AMAZING HUH ?

And?

Because the Tram was empty, I could comfortably look out and, in the dark of night, see what I could see.

And?

Just look at what I spied.

I made a ‘mental note’ of where the above Subway Sandwich Shop is located on the Number 1 Tram Line and I will pay-it-a-visit and do so soon.

I told Patti that I did not get everything that I was shopping for BUT I did get a few things. Important among the few things I did get were several packages of Nut-Brittle Bars.

I asked Patti  if she would like a photo of them and she said she would.

In the package there are (my favorite) Peanut Brittle Bars as well as other Seed Brittle Bars. I don’t know exactly what seeds they are but they too are very tasty. I think one of them (those between the Peanut Brittle Bars) are Sunflower Seed Brittle Bars. The top two may be Sesame Seed Brittle Bars.

One of these bars, coupled with a hard-boiled-egg and a half-litter of water / fruit juice is one of my favorite ‘energy’ snacks that I may eat before I go out into the streets of Irkutsk.

My favorite local convenience store, where I first discovered these nut brittle bars, has been out of them since I purchased every one they had in stock.

BACK TO NORMAL ON THE NUMBER 1 TRAM LINE

Notice, if you will, that I had a seat and a seat by the window so I could see where to exit the Tram. So far, as to getting a seat on a Tram or on a Bus, I am batting 100%. Young ladies are the first to get up followed by young men. I always profusely THANK THEM and shake their hand and pat them on the arm.

“Cap. What do you DO all day?”

I was hot. I was dressed for -8° F. Yes, it was eight degrees below zero last night when I was out. I had a long walk to the shopping center. Then in the shopping center I kept my coat on. Then the walk back to the Tram stop. Then I was in a hot Tram ..

I was sweaty. I came home and washed my T-Shirt.

All in a Sunday evening-outing here in Irkutsk, Russian Siberia.

Smiles .. Cap

All in a Sunday evening outing … cold, empty tram, sweaty crowded tram, sighting a SUBWAY (!!!), finding your brittle bars, and, I am sure, more successes. I’d say it looks like a win-win outing. And, I’d say you are settling in very comfortably in Irkutsk! Smiles and love. Patti

I think your guess is correct as to the composition of the brittle bars. They look yummy, though I’m not sure about eating all those sesame seeds.

You’re getting pretty brave there, Cap, going out at night.

Yes it is a different deal going out at night. Not one that I think I will take for granted nor do too often. You take a bad fall and you may not even be seen for who knows how long. I think I’ll cool it as to going out at night especially when it is -8°F. Smiles .. Cap

I wonder if offering a seat on a bus, train, etc., to an elder still works in the US? I’ve found that we seniors are invisible to the young of today. They don’t even break up their scrum walking down halls, sidewalks, airports, stores, etc., but make us step aside.

Age and the elderly are far FAR more respected over here Gullible. No question about it. In Hong Kong and China respecting the elders is a centuries old tradition. I am somewhat surprised at how VERY well I am being treated here in Irkutsk. Cap

    Hi Cap,
A question for you? I notice in one of your recent photo sessions with a group of folks that you have at your discussions, there are a few young folks that attend. Out of curiosity, I assume that you noted the word gets out about your arrival. Does it seem that the younger folks are interested in your presentation? Or all?

I also imagine having an American in their country, in Siberia, is probably a special situation? I doubt many Americans travel to Siberia – your thoughts? Your journey and stories that you cover in Russia are certainly very interesting! I always look forward to your next travel experience, meeting with folks, photos, etc, etc, etc! Very nifty!

They all looked young to me. One young man that I particularly liked turned out to be 39-years young. It is the youngsters that really seem to zone in on my message : Keep It Simple. I feel the older members are trying to institute rules and regulations about how they (the senior members) view the program. This is the sole purpose of me being here : Simplify this. We will never be perfect. Progress not perfection. You MUST want to be sober. You MUST work with others. Do not try to do this alone. Thanks for your comment. Yes I know they are all studying me as an American. I may be one of the few real Americans they may ever meet in their entire lifetime. They NEVER meet (actually meet and interact with) tourists. I get up close and personal with them. I mix and I mingle and I josh around with them. I am casual and friendly with them. And I tell them I will be here for months. I am not just in and out doing cameo appearances. THIS, what I am doing here and now, is the culmination of my life work. And I take it seriously. VERY seriously. To the point I was so tired from last Saturday (two meetings back-to-back) that it has taken me into the third day (Today it is MY Tuesday the 20th) to finally feel rested again. Your Ally of over 43 years. Cap
