DEC 21, 18 .. WINTER SOLSTICE DAY .. TOMORROW THE DAYS BEGIN TO GET LONGER

Assumptions Oh Assumptions.

Today Mike and I decided to end our stay here in Abakan on Sunday the 30th of December. Mike wants to go by train North from Abakan to Krasnoyarsk and this is fine with me.

So out and off in a taxi the two of us went heading for the Abakan Railway Station.

Because of my extensive experience with the India trains, and to a lesser degree with the Mongolia trains, I was dreading this important and necessary task. It had to be done and we wanted to finalize it today well over a week before we were hoping to travel North to Krasnoyarsk.

For one thing, we wanted our hosts in Krasnoyarsk to have ample lead time to prepare for our visit.

I was  dreading this task because I was assuming that the railway station scene here in Abakan would be equal to, or at least rival, those difficult scenes in India and Mongolia.

Into the station we walked. Through security we passed.

Whoa!

The station was spotless. There were four ticket windows. Three of the four ticket windows only had one customer. The fourth window was empty.

So up we walked to the empty ticket window. In short order we had our tickets.

Bottom Line : The cost was 6074 Russian Rubles .. U.S. $90.38 .. for two people. There are no first class coaches on the train and we hope we got the best of the second class cabins.

We leave Abakan at 1900 hours (7pm) and arrive in Krasnoyarsk at 0640 hours (6:40am).

I’ve published two DEC 21, 18 .. Posts on blogspot. The below link will take you to the first post.

Basically I walked back to our apartment from the railway station. I wanted to do a photo shoot of an enormous local park.

HOO – BOY ..

It was really cold. We’re having a lot of wind and I mean it cuts right through you.

Lordy Be ! IF I didn’t know better I’d think that I was in Russian Siberia it’s THAT cold.

So I’d walk maybe 200 feet and then duck into an open store / shop and ‘browse’. Get warm, walk another 200 feet and then ..

When I got back to our flat, I checked in with Patti and then slept for a full hour.

“Patti My Dear One, I don’t remember Anchorage ever being this cold. What happened to Global Warming?”

“Cap! You ARE IN RUSSIAN SIBERIA!

“I can’t remember being this cold since yesterday when I was at the site of the Sayano–Shushenskaya Dam.”

Over And Out for now.

Brrrrrr, hearing about that wind makes me c-c-c-c-old! The fact that you were out in that cold makes me keep shivering. I DO know that when the wind blows during cold weather, the ‘wind chill factor’ really does kick in. It’s a good thing there were shops/stores you could duck into along the way to warm up a bit, even a floral shop you told me about last night. Glad you and Mike got your train tickets without fuss or bother. Smiles and hugs. Patti

Yes, Oh Yes Indeed, truly it has been cold the past two days; on Thursday at the dam; on Thursday en route to the dam we stopped at a overlook and the wind nearly blew me down and was ccccold; and yesterday on Friday during my walk in the park. Yes even the little floral shop located IN the park was an enormous help.

Assumptions : Yes I assumed the train station would be a hassle. But still I went. It was a 50 on a 0 to 10 scale.

Smiles My Dear One .. Cap
