JAN 30, 19 .. IT’S FOUR O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING IN ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

Patti just telephoned me here in Irkutsk, Russian Siberia, where it is Nine o’clock in the evening.

“The Anchorage Police Department (APD) phoned me and said that our Suburban has been found.”

Three photos of our 1999 Chevrolet Suburban truck.

His name is Mister R. Richardson Richtofften. I call him both Richardson and Richtoffen. I bought him brand new (made to order for me) in April of 1999. He was stolen from our car port in Anchorage last night. The police spotted him in the parking lot of a Pizza restaurant very close (literally walking distance) to where our condo is. So people from our neighborhood stole him and probably the same people are the ones who have broken into him twice (by smashing windows) and entered illegally two other times.

The APD arrested people who were actually in Richtoffen and took them into custody. Then the APD phoned Patti to come and be interviewed (Does this and does that belong to you?) as to the identification of a lot of (stolen?) property inside of Richardson. They also found a working cell phone with a text message asking, “Have you gotten it started yet?”

His license plates had been removed and found inside. Mounted on him were license plates from an automobile that itself had been stolen. Two brand new, never used, heavy duty, best-quality Goodyear-brand spare tires were gone.

Patti could not get the key into the ignition so they jammed / destroyed that during the theft. They also had damaged one of the rear doors gaining entry during the theft.

And the world turns.

And ?

Later this morning Patti has to have Richardson towed to the Chevrolet Dealer to be repaired, get new spare tires, see what else is missing. I just had two, brand new, AC Delco Heavy Duty batteries put into Richardson. They may’ve been stolen.

That Is .. The Rest Of Our Stolen Truck’s Story .. At least for now.

During our visit, I told Patti that I would post a photo of what I got during a trip to and from the shopping center riding an Irkutsk Tram.

From the top, left to right. Nestle Corn Flakes and 2 liters of Peach juice. Going down the right side, two loaves of Russian Black Bread and a stash of Snicker’s bars.

Moving to the left, two helpings of Instant Noodle Soup and eight Danone (Dannon?) mini-yogurts.

I put 2,000 Russian Rubles (U.S. $29.85) on my cell phone so I could call the APD which has suddenly become unnecessary now that we have our Suburban back.

It may not look like much but it took two large plastic shopping bags to carry it all. During our local rush hour, on crowded Trams, it was a project. It also involved about 1/2 kilometer of walking. To the Tram. Off the Tram. To the store and back, 100 meters each way. On the Tram and back to my flat.

Thank goodness it was hot  this evening. Only -2°F. I was sweating by the time I got home. Mopped the floor by the front door. Washed the towel I use as a door mat. Washed me. Put the goodies away. Ate some dinner. Put my sweaty T-shirt over the radiator to dry. Spoke with Patti.. and put this post together..

And?

Now you have..

More of .. The Rest Of The Story .. of my Wednesday evening, January the 30th.

Both Patti and I hope she is sleeping after being awakened in the middle of the night by the APD to come identify Richtoffen.

And?

Over and out for now.

Cap and Patti.

I just published a post on blogspot about the Mariinsk Museum of Local Lore.

Mariinsk seems like a long time ago since I’m now back in Irkutsk and previously had been in Taishet following our visit to Mariinsk. What to do? I cannot possibly keep up and, at the same time, keep current.

Great relief to have the stolen car discovered. I still have to (now that the normal world is awake) call the insurance company and have the car towed to the dealer. I have NOT been to sleep .. could not settle with thinking of what I have yet to take care of with the car .. dealer, insurance company, DMV to get stickers back on the plates the thieves removed, hopes that all will be done on the car before I leave, etc. I am now going to put the rest in motion. Nice that you got your vittles and juice in. Nice to know you are resettling into Irkutsk.

What a deal this all is My Dear One. And who pays for it? NOT the criminals and that is for sure. Stolen tires and who knows what else. The terrible upsetting nature of it. Sleepless nights and NO ONE PAYS THE PRICE they deserve. Like serious jail time. Like heavy fines. Maybe get it fixed and into storage and keep the rental car till you leave. Much Love and I look forward to having you here with me. Love .. Cap

    Hi Cap,
What a pity! It’s such a shame, the damage done, the worry and of course now the repair! I surely feel sorry for you and of course for Patti as she has to do all the cleanup and paperwork and the added burden for repair! Since you mentioned that two bad guys were in the truck, do you have any idea/heard if the guys will be put in the “slammer”! I hope so! And throw away the keys (if we could be so lucky)! Life surely has it’s ups and downs (and good and bad days)! I have my fingers crossed and hope you can at least enjoy your current travels!!
As you know, if you need any assistance from me just let me know!
