APR 6, 19 .. SLYUDYANKA / СЛЮДЯНКА .. WE ARE HERE .. SAFE AND SOUND

SLYUDYANKA / СЛЮДЯНКА (left red balloon ). Lake Baikal (right red balloon ) is the largest fresh water lake in the world.

Patti and I, along with three friends, left Irkutsk this morning at 10:15am heading for SLYUDYANKA / СЛЮДЯНКА. It was a nice 1-1/2 hour drive over a small mountain range. As we passed through Kultuk (left red balloon ) we viewed Lake Baikal (right red balloon ), visited a monument honoring the Circum-Baikal Railway and then enjoyed lunch in Kultuk.

LAKE BAIKAL viewed looking down from above Kultuk. Panning right. The sun came out later in the day.

The CIRCUM-BAIKAL RAILWAY MONUMENT

The Circum-Baikal Railway (please see the below link)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circum-Baikal_Railway

is a scenic railway that overlooks a short section of the Southernmost part of Lake Baikal.

TAMIR RESTAURANT

After lunch Patti and I attended an hour and a half meeting in Sludyanka.

Then off the five of us (Patti and I with our three friends, two of which live here in Sludyanka) went driving North to visit Baykalsk.

“Captain Oh Captain!”

“What on this good earth can there be in Baykalsk Russian Siberia to see and do do?”

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

“Hum-m-m-m?”

“Well. They have a nice city limit sign”

This makes me just a little bit nuts. As you can see above, Baykalsk on Google Maps is spelled Baikalsk in Russian. Lake Baikal is spelled correctly on Google Maps.

“Get over it Captain!”

“Great Captain. A nice city limit sign. That’s it Captain?”

“OK. Baikalsk Russian Siberia IS famous for its strawberries.

AND ??

Oh Yes !!

Patti and I were stunned. They do, DO a little serious skiing here in Baikalsk Russian Siberia.

I mean, this is the real skiing deal.

Patti was very impressed with the layout.

A closer look at the bottom of the above sign. Some very difficult slopes.

Some serious ski grooming equipment to keep the slopes fit and in shape.

The chair lift house. Straight up the hill you (not us ) go.

PRESS

BAIKALSK HAS GONE TO THE DOGS!!

Sad Day! They were closed! So I shot some photos through the fence. That’s what the dark edges on the below photos are.

Our friends made-a-phone-call.

The owner is coming back to open-up just for us.

They love their ownerl

A gaggle of huskies.

Patti was having a great time.

What a fun time.

Puppies.

What a day we had!

There IS more. There IS MUCH MORE. But for now the show is over.

That looks like an enjoyable trip. By the way, some time ago when you were first in Irkutsk, you wrote that you were surprised the populace knew about huskies. Siberia is where Siberian huskies were first bred, so yes, they would know about them. And the dogs you visited sure look like Siberian huskies to me.
