APR 23, 19 .. TODAY’S CYRILLIC WORDS FROM RUSSIA ..
We are here to tell all of you : You can’t get from there to here! Or from here to there.
When we get to the photographs of the words, look for them in the lower right-hand corner of the labels in the photos.
Note : We are using Google Translate.
Patti and I are in love with Russian yogurt.
Recently we purchased a new-to-us brand of yogurt.
On the labels of three differing flavors of yogurt were three phrases :
Obviously we knew we were getting blueberry yogurt in the first one.
But what does this say : с отборной черникой
с отборной черникой translates to :
with selected blueberries.
This is what I mean when we say you can’t get from there to here or visa-versa! The Russian words do NOT look like either selected nor blueberries to me.
Equally obvious in the second one we knew we were getting mixed berries.
But what does this say : СО ВКУСОМ ЯГОДНОЕ МОРОЖЕНОЕ
СО ВКУСОМ ЯГОДНОЕ МОРОЖЕНОЕ translates to :
with taste fruit fruit.
This made no sense. So I then translated each word individually.
СО translates to : With
ВКУСОМ translates to : Taste
ЯГОДНОЕ translates to : Berry
МОРОЖЕНОЕ translates to : Ice Cream
This with taste berry ice cream makes far more sense than with taste fruit fruit.
Our Russian friend Anastasia says : with the berry ice cream taste
The third one was really of interest. Notice the dark brown balls to the left of the label.
What does this say :
С ХРУСТЯЩИМИ ШАРИКАМИ
С ХРУСТЯЩИМИ ШАРИКАМИ translates to :
with crystal balls.
However the one word ХРУСТЯЩИМИ can mean : crunch / crackle / crisp NOT crystal. So take your pick.
Our Russian friend Anastasia said it means : with crispy balls.
Now we come to another one below with multi-colored crispy balls. Its words differ from those above.
What does this say :
ЙОГУРТ С ХРУСТЯЩИМИ ШАРИКАМИ С ЯГОДНЫМ ВКУСОМ
ЙОГУРТ С ХРУСТЯЩИМИ ШАРИКАМИ С ЯГОДНЫМ ВКУСОМ
Google Translate says : YOGURT WITH CRYSTAL BALLS WITH BERRY TASTE
Anastasia says : Yogurt with the taste of berries and crispy balls
Below are two photos of the above package opened up:
You can clearly see the small flavorful balls are NOT crystal! They are crispy.
Maybe, just maybe, in our next lifetime we will be a tad better at understanding Russian. Let alone the issue with Google Translate.
