The falcated duck has indeed created quite a stir in the birding world. My friend Michael Clemens took the best photos I’ve seen so far.

For me, I saw a pied-billed grebe in Seward. It’s a bird rarely seen in Alaska. It spent the winter in the small boat harbor.

And, also in Seward, a pair of hooded mergansers! Beautiful waterfowl usually only seen in Southeastern.

Last summer, the birders were agog at an Eastern kingbird in a park in Anchorage. First time ever recorded in Anchorage, and far from their normal range though it has been recorded nine other times around Alaska. I got to see that one, too.

Now, if wood ducks would find their way from Juneau to Tern Lake!!!

Thank you so much Gullible for this great information for any other bird-followers who may be following us here on dot.net. It is an amazing phenomenon that of the ‘birders’ and their passion for seeing new species.

Cap and Patti who spied the article.
