JUN 20, 20 .. AN IMPORTANT DAY ‘IN THE FAR NORTH’ .. THE SUMMER SOLSTICE
Today, at 1:43pm (1343 hours) the Summer Solstice (our longest day of the year) will occur.
As you will read in the Wikipedia link below, since prehistory, the summer solstice has been seen as a significant time of year in many cultures, and has been marked by festivals and rituals. Traditionally, in many temperate regions (especially Europe), the summer solstice is seen as the middle of summer and referred to as “midsummer”. Today, however, in some countries and calendars it is seen as the beginning of summer.

Our days will now begin to get shorter (we will lose about 6 seconds tomorrow) as we begin our journey to the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year that will occur on Monday, December the 21st at 4:30am (0430 hours). Traditionally, on the day of the Summer Solstice, there are many celebrations and special events. However, due to Covid-19, this year most (if not all) of them have been cancelled.
It’s a time of reflection because as the very heart of winter (the Winter Solstice) passes, we begin to joyfully take notice of the fact that each day will be a tad longer in length until, in six months, we reach the Summer Solstice.
And now we begin the count-down to the Winter Solstice.
The Cycles of the Seasons. The Cycles of Life Itself.
Much Love..
