I left the below comment on Gullible’s Chapter 5 Post above.

Interesting, eye-catching title .. Chapter Five: In Which I Go to the Dark Side. Then as we read on we find .. But we’ll stick to the dark side of photography for this chapter. So now we all understand .. taa-daa .. The Dark Side of photography. Great writing Gullible, you skillfully lead us on!! I am a few light years behind you on this but fascinated at the same time. These are photos ‘for effect’ (back lighting and rim lighting). Then you have photos for the transmission of what your subject actually looks like. In this vein, I prefer the photo of the elephant in photo 10 (that you refer to as a okay photo) because I can really ‘see’ what he looks like. Still very fascinating. Patti said that I am not into the esoteric side of photograpy (intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest). Smiles .. Cap and Patti

Gullible replied as follows..

Patti is right. This kind of photography is for a particular group. I myself don’t appreciate black and white photography except for certain photos. But backlit or rim lit? Yes. Artsy fartsy.
All a matter of taste.
