APR 9, 22 .. REPORT ON PATTI’S MAYO CLINIC MEDICAL PROCEDURE

Friday, April 8th 2022

Today, at 12:45pm, Patti entered the Mayo Clinic to undergo (what  turned out to be) an endoscopy. An endoscopy procedure involves inserting a long, flexible tube (endoscope) down the throat and into the esophagus. A tiny camera on the end of the endoscope lets the doctor examine the esophagus, stomach and the beginning of the small intestine or duodenum.

In and of itself an endoscopy is a routine procedure that many of us have had.

Prior to today, dating back to Friday, January the 31st 2020, Patti has had four radio frequency ablation procedures to treat her diagnosis of having the pre cancerous Barrett’s Esophagus. Just in case you want to read a little more about this please click onto the below link.

Above I just wrote : Patti entered the Mayo Clinic to undergo (what  turned out to be) an endoscopy.

We had thought (shall we say feared) that Patti was going to have her 5th radiofrequency ablation procedure.

As it turned out, the very BEST possible situation occurred. Upon completion of her endoscopy (it was about 18 minutes) Patti’s Doctor was so pleased with the condition of her esophagus that he called the endoscopy a done-deal and advised Patti to have another endoscopy performed in Alaska in 6 months.

Below are a few photos showing what I was actively involved with.

Yes, first we had to check into the building and be screened for possible covid symptoms. Both of us were actually tested (nasal swab) for covid this past Wednesday.

For reasons that are beyond my understanding, uploading the above photo was agonizingly slow. So I decided to post photos over on blogspot.

So run on over to blogspot IF you want some more details of what I, Your Captain, was doing all the while!

Yes indeed. Both of us are happy that her esophagus looks O.K. to her doctor and, at least for now, no further procedures are on the horizon except for a routine endoscopy in 6 months. Thanks. Cap and Patti
