NATIONAL BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE DAY..<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

National Bittersweet Chocolate Day is on January 10 each year.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Chocolate was first discovered by the Aztecs (a powerful Mesoamerican civilization (c. 1300-1521) in central Mexico), who used ground cocoa beans for cooking a bitter beverage. They often cooked it with corn and pepper and gave it a name: \u2018xocolatl\u2019. This is the origin of the modern name \u2018chocolate\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When Europeans found the Aztec civilization they were introduced to \u2018xocolatl\u2019. However, they did not like the bitter Aztec beverage. They took the cocoa seeds back to Europe and added sugar to the ground cocoa seeds. This gave birth to the chocolate we eat today.<\/p>\n

Bittersweet chocolate is made of dark chocolate, which contains 50% to 90% of cocoa, butter, and sugar and does not contain any milk.. The reduction of cocoa and sugar in dark chocolate helps to make bittersweet and semisweet chocolates.<\/p>\n

It is a blend of at least 35% cocoa liquor, cocoa butter, and a minimal amount of sugar. It\u2019s the ratio of cacao to sugar that determines whether the chocolate is bittersweet, semi-sweet, or sweetened. Bittersweet, or dark Chocolate<\/em><\/span> is at least 70% cacao.<\/p>\n

Bittersweet Chocolate is considered the purest form of chocolate. It is usually used for baking.<\/p>\n

Very few people eat bittersweet chocolate directly.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
