In 1972, I became extremely interested in genealogy.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Genealogy Day is every second Saturday in March.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

This year, it takes place on March 14.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Genealogy studies family origins and ancestry by compiling detailed lists of ancestors and arranging them in written forms like pedigree charts.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Understanding genealogy may answer questions about why we are the way we are. It could also unearth skeletons! Regardless, it promises to be both eye-opening and fun.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Tracing genealogy today has become a passion project for many people worldwide.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Surnames First Make an Appearance in the 1200’s.\u00a0 The first surnames in Europe comprise four general groups: based on geography (e.g., Hill), occupation (e.g., Baker), appearances (e.g., Brown), or those based on fathers\u2019 names.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n

In 1972, 53 years ago, while working on a construction project in Fresno, California, thanks to a fellow working associate, I\u00a0 became interested in the Genealogy of my Chastain family name. My friend\u00a0was a devout member of\u00a0 the Mormon Church which is extremely active in family histories so its members can pray for long ago deceased family ancestors.<\/em><\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
I became a life member of the Pierre Chastain Family Association, a non-profit family organization dedicated to doing genealogical research on the descendants of Pierre Chastain (1659-1728) who immigrated from France to Virginia in the year 1700.<\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Generation after generation, I successfully went all the way back to Pierre Chastain. Pierre was a French Huguenot. <\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
French Huguenots were 16th\u201317th century French Protestants following Calvinist traditions who faced severe persecution, including the St. Bartholomew\u2019s Day massacre (1572). Following the 1685 revocation of the Edict of Nantes\u2014which previously granted limited rights\u2014many fled to Europe, North America, and South Africa, known as le Refuge.<\/em><\/div>\n

Some yeas ago, Patti and I were at a park in Michigan. Patti noticed a caterpillar making its way along a leaf. Patti said.. “That little caterpillar has no idea what is in store for it.”<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n

Butterflies are one of the most beautiful and colorful creatures in the world.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n

Butterflies are important creatures because they help to pollinate flowers.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n

Scientists believe that butterflies evolved from moths during the Cretaceous period some 40 million to 135 million years back. They have gone through several evolutions over the millennia to become the butterflies we see today.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Butterflies feed on nectar from plants. Their straw-like mouthpart, called a proboscis, affords them the ability to reach for it deep within the flowers.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
There are more than 20,000 types of butterflies all over the world.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Butterflies taste with their feet, which have taste sensors.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Butterflies migrate for long distances, with an example of the Monarch butterfly, which moves from Mexico to the northern U.S. and southern Canada, a journey of over 2,500 miles.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
