MAY 27, 15 .. NEW DELHI STREET SCENES ..

Tomorrow morning at 6AM I will .. God Willing .. Be on the Shatabdi Express train heading South from New Delhi to Agra Cantt. Odd how things work out! My original plan for this week was the trip to Puri and back to Agra Cantt and then New Delhi. I am happy this did not work out. It has been nice to just be settled here in New Delhi and not running around India in the HEAT!

I find it interesting .. in the below map .. to note the surrounding countries! Would it be an understatement for me to note that I am quite close to some .. dare I say .. hot spots in the world scene?

In this Post I am going to show you all some ordinary and very mundane yet extremely typical street scenes and some points of interest for me.

Today’s Rhetorical Question: Do any of you .. by chance .. recognize the below meal?

SRN 004

Oh Captain can this be? Here you are in India and you have sought out and you have actually found some .. some .. some ..

SRN 001

YES! SINGAPORE RICE NOODLES! TWO MEALS SHOWN!

Yes! It was very acceptable! Although it was not quite up to the standards of Hong Kong it sure ‘scratched the itch’ for some SRN! So much so that I went back a second time.

Since September of 2011 when I began to use a cell phone here in India .. The below offices of Vodafone here in New Delhi have become like a home-away-from-home. I can’t overstate how vital and critical it is for me to be-in-touch daily with Patti while here in India. In Hong Kong I am able to be-in-touch with friends worldwide but not so here in India because the Vodafone cell phone plan for international calls is not financially feasible at least for me.

VODAFONE 002

Clean and crisp ..

VODAFONE 003

The office is located in the D Block of Connaught Place facing the E Block which is 180 Degrees behind us in these photos.

VODAFONE 001

Good people and great service. I keep returning to Vodafone an English based company.

Another Rhetorical Question: Does it look to any of you viewing the above and the below photographs that it is somewhere around 118 Degrees!

(Just like that! I Lost Half this Post .. Photos and text .. Sigh .. Here I go again .. I think that I got dropped from the internet and didn’t know I had been dropped .. Let me tell you the ‘kick-in-the-stomach’ it is to discover you lost your work! .. ANDREJ it could also have been I got mixed up in a preview and was not on the edit page and thought I was and so lost what I thought I had posted .. I thought that was no longer possible for me to do ..)

Below are some plain ordinary mundane street scenes around Connaught Place here in central New Delhi ..

AS I WALK AROUND THESE SCENES I ASK MYSELF .. “WHO ON EARTH IS BUYING ALL OF THIS STUFF?!”

CROWDS 001

CROWDS 002

CROWDS 003

CROWDS 004

CROWDS 005

CROWDS 007

CROWDS 006

“Yes ‘Zilla I am happy you asked me.” .. “Yes! This craziness goes on at night too!”

NIGHT CROWD 001

I snapped these two photos from a roof top restaurant three floors up from the street in the HEAT of evening. No it was not my Singapore Rice Noodle restaurant.

NIGHT CROWD 002

OK Captain it is time to call-it-a-wrap and get packing for your 6AM train.

Smiles .. Cap ..

(It was here when I went back to review the above that I found what I had written was lost and gone! Captain .. Captain .. Captain .. Check Your Attitude .. In her comment to your ATTITUDE post Gullible said you just write about it .. So I have Gullible .. So I have ..)

IF you go to Alaska in the winter you can ski and do winter sports. IF you come to India in the HOT SEASON ..you just grin-and-bear-it I guess! My attitude is suffering from the heat here in the lobby outside of my room!

WELL I ACTUALLY GOT THIS PUBLISHED .. AMAZING ..

The map showing how close you are to Pakistan and Afghanistan is very sobering … there is a certain amount of “heat” involved in being that close to the unrest going on in both of those places.

Who is buying all that stuff on the streets in New Delhi? The crowds of people shown in the pictures!

I am also glad that you have not been traveling back and forth in this heat … staying in New Delhi, with an air conditioned room is simply sensible.

    Love, Patti

Often I have thought .. “I am so happy I just stayed put here!” .. A room with very good A.C. I must add .. Love .. Cap ..

    Hi Cap,

I just wanted to keep up your spirits as you are getting close to returning to Hong Kong and will be happy to return and enjoy the sea breeze in HK!

The latest article this morning on the heat situation in India. I am happy you are there and not me – you are one tough traveler!!!

Article: “More than 1,100 people have died in a major heatwave sweeping India, authorities said Wednesday, as forecasters warned searing temperatures would continue.

Southern India has borne the brunt of the hot, dry conditions and many of the victims are construction workers, elderly or homeless people unable to heed official advice to stay indoors.

Roads have melted in New Delhi, where forecasters said they expected the high temperatures to continue into next week — adding to the misery of thousands living on the capital’s streets with little shelter from the hot sun.

Brahma Prakash Yadav, director of Indian Meteorological Department, said top temperatures in the capital would remain around 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) — the national benchmark for a heatwave.

“Maximum temperatures won’t fall substantially. However, major relief can be expected from June 2 as there are indications of good showers,” he said.

Hospitals in the worst-affected states were on alert to treat victims of heatstroke and authorities advised people to stay indoors and drink plenty of water.

Hundreds of people — mainly from the poorest sections of society — die at the height of summer every year across the country, while tens of thousands suffer power cuts from an overburdened electricity grid.” End of Article

Keep cool and have a good flight to HK! It’s interesting BTW how some acronyms carry on! Very nifty, since you and I have been using them for over at least 30 years!

I came here to Agra to visit my friend Jeevan .. So I fit in two visits rather than staying here all the time. New Delhi is a nice visit and I also have friends there I enjoy seeing. New Delhi is an old friend and has always ended up being my home base in India. Yes it may not make sense but in the final analysis it has worked out.
