NOV 19, 18 .. THREE WEEKS IN RUSSIAN SIBERIA AND COUNTING ..

Today begins .. My fourth week here in Irkutsk, Russian Siberia.
And what about the memories of the past three weeks that I’ve enjoyed here?

There is absolutely no way that I can find the words to write that will fully convey to you who are following along here what the past three weeks here in (can you believe it?) Russian Siberia have meant to me.
Today’s Rhetorical Question : Why don’t we have the dense, coarse grained, hearty breads like they have here?
Could it be that we DO and that I just haven’t discovered it on the shelves of my stores in Anchorage?
By The Way (BTW), in the below photo, at the very bottom is the ‘list price’ for the loaf of bread. 400 Russian Rubles. Do you all see it?
I actually paid 37 Russian Rubles or U.S. $0.55 for the loaf you see photographed above.

You are building some great memories in Siberia, specifically around Irkutsk. That bread looks DELICIOUS! I certainly cannot ever recall seeing anything like that here. Maybe I will check Harvest Bread here in Anchorage and what they may have on hand. I doubt I will find anything comparable, but it’s worth a try just so I can tell you I looked!! I just went-back to the Post and added the following : The ‘list price’ (you can see it at the very bottom of the package label) for the loaf of bread is 400 Russian Rubles. I paid 261 Russian Rubles or US $3.98. Just like at home. List Price can vary from the price you are actually charged. Odd huh? They may well have dark bread at Harvest Bread but I doubt it will have the density of the bread above. Much Love. Cap
