MAY 26, 19 .. A SPECIAL MEMORY FROM CHITA, EASTERN RUSSIAN SIBERIA .. ЛЕОНИД ИЛЬИЧ БРЕЖНЕВ

Without our Russian friends, our visits would not be what amazing experiences they are. Our friend Olga told Patti to look out the window of our balcony so Patti could see where I was going on the outing I am writing about in this Post.

As I was doing a Trip Advisor Post, I decided to share some of it with those of you who might be interested. It is a very special memory from our recent visit to the city of Chita out in South Eastern Siberia.

Below are some photos that I snapped, thanks to Olga, from our apartment in Chita. Don’t worry if you don’t have a clue-in-a-carload as to what your are looking at in the first seven photos, it will all become clear as you continue to scroll down.

So too will the Russian name you see in the above title to this Post .. ЛЕОНИД ИЛЬИЧ БРЕЖНЕВ.

What I want you to focus on is the white structure in the distance with the red lines.

Now we are really getting closer to the structure.

What you have been seeing in the above photos (again, each snapped from the balcony of our apartment in Chita ) is the major World War II Memorial here in Chita.

Now for some close-up photos of  what you have seen above from ‘ afar ‘. The white structure with the red lines.

In the above and in the below photos you see the Russian words,

ВСЁ ДЛЯ ФРОНТА .. ВСЁ ДЛЯ ПОБЕДЫ

These words mean .. EVERYTHING FOR THE FRONT .. EVERYTHING FOR VICTORY

The Eternal Flame burns ever brightly.

They are difficult to see, but in the above photo, in the immediate foreground, is another structure with the Russian words .. НИКТО НЕ ЗАБЫТ on the left and the words НИЧУО НЕ ЗАБЫТО on the right.

Below you can more clearly see these profound words.

These above words mean ..

NO ONE IS FORGOTTEN ..

NOTHING IS FORGOTTEN.

Now I am going to share with you the special memory that I have from my visit.

In the below photo, in the lower left corner, in the distant background, is one part of the memorial that shows the names of those from Chita who fought and served and those who also died in WWII.

A closer look at the part of the memorial you see in the distance above.

Along the left side of the above photo are individual memorials to those who served in the Chita area and who received special recognition for their service.

My special Chita friend Alla, who took me to this incredible WWII memorial, gently guided me to one particular individual she wanted me to see.

A nice looking young man who served with honor.

Below, alive and up close, you see his name.

БРЕЖНЕВ ЛЕОНИД ИЛЬИЧ (1906-1982) ..

My jaw dropped open in shock. Because I have a fair knowledge of the Russian cyrillic alphabet, I instantly realized who this handsome young Russian warrior is.

Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev was an honored and decorated Russian Head of State.

This is a very special memory of Chita.

Dear Cap, your description of the Memorial is really picturesque. Your language and descriptive ways raise potential visitor’s interest. Moreover, they show how much this sight is interesting for you and, truly speaking, your interest makes me learn more about the sights I live nearby not only know they are. Thank you, Cap, for teaching a lesson!

Without your help Olga, we would NOT have been able to see, and to do, all we did during our short visit to your wonderful city of Chita. It was fun to be able to drive right up to the memorial and NOT have to enter at the far end and walk the long walk to it! Again it was YOU Olga who facilitated this great visit. Smiles from the two of us .. Cap and Patti

I think it’s the God who wanted me to do this for you. And it’s really pleasant to help HIM and YOU.
        Come back some day, please!

Thank You so much Olga. I wish we could return some day. The clock of time keeps ticking and we are not getting younger. Smiles and Hugs .. Cap and Patti

Cap and Patti, Thanks for the view of the Memorial. By D-Day, Russia was already beating the Germans for over a year. And the war cost them up to forty dead to one of ours. Their sacrifice saved huge numbers of Americans. My heart procedure went well, am resting at home. Glad its over and grateful for Medicare. Gaming addiction is rampant, no easy way out for most. Too bad. Loneliness is spreading. Later, Greg

Thanks Greg for the good news about recovering from your heart procedure. Oh My the misery suffered here in Russia during WWII. Addiction is addiction and they are very hard to beat Greg. One has got to want to change their life and solve what the addiction is doing to serve them. Yes addictions do serve the addict to a point, then they take over one’s life.
