FEB 11, 21 .. YEAR 1952 .. THE MOVIE .. ‘HIGH NOON’ ..
Yes, I AM dating myself.
On July 30th of 1952, the Western Movie High Noon was released. The movie’s theme song, The Ballad of High Noon, was extremely popular and was in fact awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Gary Cooper (the Marshal), Grace Kelly (his wife) and Lloyd Bridges were three of the prominent actors that starred in the movie.
In a nutshell the Marshal was retiring and preparing to leave town (Hadleyville, New Mexico) when he learned that Frank Miller (who the Marshal had sent to prison) and his gang was coming after him. The Marshal chose (over his wife’s strident objections) to stay and face Frank Miller in a gun fight. Much of the movie dealt with the Marshal’s feelings of dread and yes, fear, over the fact he was going to have to face the Miller gang alone. It is a gut wrenching film, one that I have never forgotten.
So what ?
Tomorrow (along with Patti) I am going to go to The Alaska Regional Hospital and receive (our) second Moderna Covid-19 vaccinations. I am dreading the possible after effects (a significant number of our friends have had their second vaccinations and yes have had side effects, some difficilt and some not so bad) and feel like The Marshal in High Noon. Like the Marshal, I don’t want this possible fight but (like the Marshal) I know (we) I must stay and face it.
Now I will publish this and come back with another Post (FEB 12, 21) to cover this one up.
Still Smiling .. Cap and Patti too
The Ballad of High Noon
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
On this, our weddin’ day
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
Wait, wait along
I do not know what fate awaits me
I only know I must be brave
And I must face a man who hates me
Or lie a coward, a craven coward
Or lie a coward in my grave
Oh, to be torn twixt love and duty
S’posin’, I lose my fair haired beauty
Look at that big hand move along
Nearin’, high noon
He made a vow while in state prison
Vowed it would be my life or his’n
I’m not afraid of death but, oh
What will I do if you leave me?…
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
You made that promise as a bride
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
Although you’re grievin’, don’t think of leavin’
Now that I need you by my side
Wait along, (wait along) wait along
Wait along, wait along
(Wait along, wait along, wait along, wait along)
