MAY 9, 24 .. BACK HOME IN OUR CONDO..

YES! Patti and I are back home in our Condo. The new thermostat has things toasty roasty.

The below photo has two points of interest.

First, we hope all of you notice the sunshine. So far our skies have been pretty dark and dreary.

Second, along with Patti and myself, our Chevrolet Suburban is back home here in Anchorage.

Back to some sunshine as we enjoy our Anchorage views.

NATIONAL TODAY..

Fun!

HURRY FOR BUTTONS DAY .. Is an annual event observed on May 9. A button is a small knob or disk secured to an article, mostly clothing, and used as a fastener with a buttonhole or loop. It also refers to a circular metal or plastic badge that bears a stamped design or printed slogan. For example, a campaign button. The oldest known button dates back to 5000 B.C. in the Indus River Valley and was made from a curved shell. It was not until the 13th century that buttons served as fasteners, and this, along with buttonholes, first appeared in Germany before spreading throughout Europe.

Buttons are made from almost any material in the world from plastic to metal. Their composition often reflects the popular materials of the era in which they were made. Today, the most common materials are hard plastic, metals, seashells, or wood. They were once made by artisans, artists, and craftspeople, out of raw materials or found objects such as fossils, or a combination of both. Nowadays, factories produce them in large quantities.

Button collecting is quite popular in the United States. People collect buttons for a variety of reasons; for future use, for casual collecting, or for competitive collecting. Hobbies magazine organized a hobby show in Chicago in which button collectors participated. Later that year, they formed the National Button Society and held their first button show.

Many state and local button clubs were formed in the following decade, holding their own button shows. The National Button Society has over 3,000 members on four different continents. It focuses on educational research and exhibitions, the publication of materials about buttons, and the preservation of the importance of buttons.

How about!

Lost Sock Memorial Day..

Today, we stand together to pay tribute to our dearly departed socks.

Lost Sock Memorial Day is celebrated annually on May 9, honors all the socks that are no longer with us. Where did they go? We are not certain but what we do know is that losing one sock of a perfectly-matched pair is a wide-spread phenomenon. So much so that we have a day on which to honor those socks we have loved and lost.

The origin of Lost Sock Memorial Day is as big a mystery as the whereabouts of the socks the day is meant to memorialize. But socks have been around for centuries and it’s clear Americans love their socks. In 2018, in the US alone, we purchased over $11 billion in socks. Most men wear socks every day — including those particularly fashionable guys who wear socks with sandals.

The sock industry continues to grow in sales and expand in variety. Gone are the days of the one-color, one-style sock. Today, socks serve multiple purposes and are manufactured to perform based on need. Of course, the dressy trouser sock in neutral colors exists for professional or fancy occasions but the markets for fun and functional socks are making a name for themselves. Themed graphic socks are trendier for the modern, less casual work environment.

With each American having an ever-growing sock drawer, the odds of a paired sock losing its mate increases. In a recent survey of 2,000 people, it was determined the average person loses 1.3 socks each month! That’s a lot of socks every year — over 15 per person, per year. So you can see how this universally hits home and causes us all great distress when a sock goes missing.

MAY 8, 24 .. NATIONAL TODAY.. SURVIVOR..

NATIONAL TODAY..

There are 33 Holidays today. We liked this one the best.

REWARD YOURSELF DAY, MAY 8, 2024

Get ready to treat yourself on May 8th by celebrating Reward Yourself Day! Today is the opportunity to give yourself the recognition and reward you deserve for taking steps to improve your health and overall well being.

Rewarding yourself has been a proven method of encouraging positive behavior changes since ancient times. The concept of rewarding oneself has endured through the centuries to reinforce good habits and celebrate accomplishments. For example, the Greeks and Romans used rewards to strive for excellence and perform heroic deeds.

In modern times, psychologists have used the power of rewards to motivate behavior changes, creating a positive reinforcement loop that makes it easier for people to stick to their goals. Setting specific milestones and rewarding yourself when you reach them reinforces the desired behavior and makes it more likely to stick.

This national holiday encourages people of all ages to take a few moments out of their day to celebrate their successes and reflect on how far they have come in reaching their goals. Whether it’s taking time to relax and enjoy a hot bath, indulging in your favorite treat, or going for a hike. Reward Yourself Day is the perfect excuse to show yourself some love.

Reward Yourself Day was created as a way to encourage people to reward themselves for achieving their goals, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. And what better way to celebrate than by using the Sincerely Health TM. A health and wellness digital engagement platform launched by Albertsons/Safeway — one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States — which allows you to earn rewards for making healthy choices. So mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate all you have achieved on May 8th!

Oh By The Way.. It looks like we have a solution to our Condo having no heat. A service man came out yesterday and replaced the thermostat.  We hope this “does it”.
