JUL 14, 19 .. INSTANT DEATH .. INCHES AWAY .. MICRO SECONDS AWAY

It is Oh-So-Easy to say the following words : Be careful.

The problem has to do with so many factors that I won’t even attempt to list them.

So having ‘copped out’ so to speak in terms of listing the many factors which I just mentioned, I will list just one that I think applies to me : Age 82 years.

At age 82 years I get physically tired more easily than when I was younger. At age 82 years I can not concentrate as I once could concentrate. At age 82 years .. Well you get the idea.

To tell me the simple, basic words : “Cap, please be careful.”

You are telling me something that I ALREADY KNOW.

It was just past 12 o’clock midnight this morning, Sunday the 14th of July (my near-death day). Saturday had been an exhilarating, outstanding and yes, an exhausting day. Yes I was tired, yes I was exhausted.

I’d ridden the Hong Kong Tram up from Causeway Bay to Central. Gotten off the Tram and was waiting at the corner of Pedder Street and Des Voeux Road to cross the main / major street in Hong Kong Central.

Keep in mind that it is just past 12 o’clock midnight after a tiring day. I was not tired. I was Exhausted. I was facing a red, do NOT walk pedestrian traffic light. However there was no traffic to my left and people from across the street were walking (against the red, do NOT walk pedestrian traffic light) towards me. I began to sort of lean forward to cross the street and inches away, coming from my right, a Hong Kong Bus blasted past me.

Yes I know better. Look both ways. Be careful. The traffic is coming from the ‘other direction’. This is NOT a new-to-me phenomenon.

Lesson Learned : Be careful. NEVER walk against a red, do NOT walk, traffic light.

Still Alive but Shaken.

Greg, I have to think that you hit-the-nail on the head. It borders on the writing titled : Footprints In The Sand.
