OCT 18, 11 (2/4) .. LEAVING CALCUTTA
MY LOVE / HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH COCKROACHES ..
I have a set of six.. ‘nesting’ .. small plastic bowls.. four (4) new on this trip.. purchased at the Entally Market..
At night.. to PREVENT cockroaches from getting into them.. I nest them and then I turn them upside-down on the bed so there is NO way a cockroach can get under them and up into the upside-down bowls..
So this morning I picked them all up.. flipped them rightside-up and went for the smallest of them all.. the one I got specifically to cleanse my dental night guard for teeth grinding.. and I put it into the small bowl and .. with it positioned properly I poured a little Listerine into it and brushed it clean and THEN I NOTICED..
TWO DEAD BABY COCKROACHES..
To get into the smallest bowl they had to get under the outside bowl and then under the other five and climb up into the smallest one..
UNLESS I SET THEM DOWN LAST NIGHT ON TOP OF THE TWO BABIES.. a real possibility ..
And I looked at the two dead babies and the wonder of GOD struck me.. how on earth do these teeny weeny little things come from even smaller eggs and emerge from their eggs complete with eyes and antenna and legs and all the other functioning body parts and with INSTINCTS that tell them to RUN LIKE HELL FROM ME..
THEN I spied an adult on the floor and raised my foot to smash him into a flat inert mass and with my foot coming down he spoke to me..
“Dad.. I am going to die dead in one heartbeat.. your foot is fast approaching and I KNOW I will not escape.. will you consider this Dad.. as my parting words for you in my short little lifetime.. WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE FLIES IN YOUR ROOM !”
I thought to this little archy relative.. having smeared him into a grease spot on the hard tile floor..
YOU ARE SO RIGHT MY LITTLE FRIEND.. NO !.. NO !.. NO !.. I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE COCKROACHES THAN FLIES..
Flies are FAR MORE BOTHERSOME and FLIES ARE FAR MORE DIFFICULT TO DEFEND AGAINST..
Flies actually attack you in their way.. they buzz around and will LAND on your head and land on your arms .. and land on your face and land on your neck.. and you swat and you usually miss them..
we won’t even discuss mosquitoes..
Cockroaches run like hell to get away FROM you.. and flies ALSO get into everything and walk everywhere and also spread diseases because of where they walk..
WELL SPOKEN LITTLE AMBASSADOR FOR COCKROACHES.. WELL SPOKEN MY LITTLE FRIEND..
YOU ARE FAR FROM BEING THE WORST NEIGHBOR IN MY ROOM..
