FEB 2, 19 .. I AM CURRENTLY OFF-LINE IN MY FLAT ..
I am currently without Wi-Fi ..
I have no Wi-Fi in my flat here in Irkutsk Russian Siberia.
I had excellent Wi-Fi here in my flat on Wednesday and Thursday. Come Friday (February 1st a new month) and NO Wi-Fi. I have tried in vain to contact my landlord. He simply may have forgotten to pay for the month of February since I’ve been away for two months.
I came to my local library here in Irkutsk hoping to get on-line using their Wi-Fi here in the library.
Alas-Alak! They have no Wi-Fi here. They only have ethernet cable connections. Sounds like Kyzyl to me. Maybe I will come back tomorrow or Monday and suddenly I’ll have Wi-Fi. I do have an ethernet cable adapter and brought it with me. My laptop said its USB 2 ports do not have the ability to provide the power necessary to use the adapter.
So?
As I did for years and year and years when I never had a personal laptop with me ..

OK! On with a short Post.
I’ll tell you all it was one cold trip over here.
Not being on-line at my flat, I didn’t know the ambient temperature when I came outside. Luckily I dressed 90% of my max so I survived. It DID NOT HELP ME ONE IOTA that I did not correctly recall (it has been over two months since I was last here) how to get here. Yes Oh Yes .. I would have bet you Detroit Tiger Tom had you invited me to place a bet with you as to me knowing how to get here. Tom I probably would have bet my life on it. I was 100% absolutely positive that I knew how to get here. This Detroit Tiger Tom is why your Captain does-not-bet.
I just checked the ambient temperature at 1521 hours and it is a relatively balmy -11F / -24C.
There is absolutely no reason for me to feel as cold as I felt at only -11F / -24C!
Me not knowing that my reality was not reality at all cost me about 20-minutes of additional walking. I should have just stepped into a store and warmed up. I didn’t. Don’t ask me why! Don’t ask me why I did not correctly remember how to get here!
Wonderful facilities here. Immaculate restroom. Really great library staffers. And I’m all alone. The rest of the world (me included) have internet access at home or via their smart phones.
Not having internet access has really been more than a little disorienting for me. To do major photo posts, I much prefer to write and publish them using (1) my own laptop in (2) my own flat.
On the positive side .. I’ve really gotten a lot of sleep the past two days.
OK Patti. Here it is for you to clean up when you are able.

It’s a bummer that you are not getting Wi-Fi in the apartment, but good that you got out to the library (I think). I added “I think” because of your mentioning how cold it is there now. I just checked the temperature on-line and it says -15. It is a worry also that in that cold you were confused about where the library is. Glad you found it! And, the silver lining in all of this is that you have been catching up on getting a lot of sleep. You HAVE been on quite a run these past three months! Smiles and love, Patti
Hard to believe your laptop doesn’t have an ethernet port! That’s almost SOP. The USB ports won’t do it. Look for a larger port. I’m sure you know what it looks like.
