APR 21, 19 .. EASTER SUNDAY 2019 .. CHRIST IS RISEN

This past Friday, April the 19th, I published a Post about ‘Good Friday’.

In the Post, I wrote that I was surprised / shocked, that ‘our’ very own church, right up the street from us ..

Did not have any ‘Good Friday’ services.

In last Friday’s Post I published the below photo.

Upon seeing the above photo, our good friend Detroit Tiger Tom, suggested that I check the Russian Orthodox Church Calendar for year 2019. 

Oops. In the Russian Orthodox Faith, Palm Sunday is today. Good Friday is April the 26th, and Easter Sunday 2019 is April the 28th.

All of this being true, on April the 21st, in the Western Church, today is..

EASTER SUNDAY

With this in mind, wanting to celebrate Easter in some manner, Patti and I visited ‘our’ church up the street just to pay homage to Jesus of Nazareth.

Well, let me assure all of you, our friends here in the Russian Orthodox Faith did not let us down. You see, the Orthodox Faith is one very HIGH church in terms of centuries of very formal tradition and rituals and today they are celebrating Palm Sunday which, in and of itself, is a major EASTER ritual.

Some of you may not know this, but in the Russian Orthodox Faith the parishioners stand. There are no church pews for parishioners to sit upon. Major holiday services are several hours in duration. ‘Our’ little church was absolutely wall-to-wall full. Fortunately there are some benches in the rear for the elderly and the handicapped. We took full advantage of this option.

What a wonderful Palm Sunday / Easter Sunday we celebrated with our Russian brethren.

So you can appreciate the above crowd, below is what the church looks like during a weekday.
