JUN 23, 19 .. FROM IRKUTSK, RUSSIAN SIBERIA .. A MINI-MONUMENT TO THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMER

Because we like to keep our blogspot website active, recently our photos have been posted on blogspot. So it has now been awhile (a long time? May 26th. ) since we have published a real photo-post here on dot.net.

So?

So here come some photos on dot.net.

It would be an understatement to note that, here in Russian Siberia, computers and the Information Technology World, are alive and well.

In this Post, we are going to show you some photos of a rather cute Monument to the Programmer.

We are living in the (upper right red balloon ) central part of Irkutsk. This small mini-monument (lower left red balloon ) is across the Angara River on the Western side of Irkutsk.

We are getting quite familiar with this (in the above map you can see Lermontova Street) area because our local Tram ends its route right at the Mall Lermontov where we are now doing a lot of our shopping. Below are photos of the rear of the Mall taken from the end of the Tram line.

In the below photo, along the bottom, you can see the Tram tracks that make a circle for the Tram to return back into the central part of Irkutsk.

The above and below photos show the rear (the Tram side) of Mall Lermontov.

It is a very nice looking Mall.

By the way, the above Russian words ТОРГОВЫЙ  ЦЕНТР  ( in English TORGOVYY  TSENTR ) that you see as you enter the rear entrance of the Mall, do not say MALL LERMONTOV. They say SHOPPING CENTER.

As you enter the Mall from the Tram, you see the very nice, Roman Catholic Church of The Immaculate Heart of The Mother of God.

In the below photo, at the bottom, you can again see the Tram’s circular, turn-around-tracks.

Now we enter the Mall, we walk through it, and we exit on the Lermontova Street side. Looking back we see the front  of the Mall from across Lermontova Street.

Now we turn around 180° and see..

MONUMENT TO THE PROGRAMMER

By The Way (BTW) yours truly had a deuce-of-a-time finding this monument. I was under the mis-impression that it was in the area where the Tram line ends somewhere behind the church.

Walking towards the Monument.

Today’s Rhetorical Question : How often have YOU seen a Monument to the World of the Computer Programmers?

Up close and personal.

The time has come to say goodbye, return to the Mall Lermontov, do some shopping and hop-onto-the-Tram back to our Flat.

Nice to be here. VERY nice to be here.

Thinking about the monument – really, those folks are unsung heroes, we take their work for granted, but they’ve impacted EVERYTHING we do.

Tom you are SO correct. Computers and the IT World are affecting just about everything we do. Thanks for your comment. Cap
