JUL 28, 19 .. SENIOR CITIZENS .. BEWARE OF FALLING ..

This warning certainly is NOT anything new is it? However, the ‘horror stories’ of senior citizen friends falling continue to add-up.

Patti recently saw a long time (notice I did not write Patti recently saw an old ) friend who is currently in a wheel chair.

“What happened?” Patti asked her.

THE REST OF THE STORY.

This happened in early June.  She needed to cut two branches from a tree outside of her home, a home she has lived in since childhood.  She set up a ladder, securely, climbed the ladder, felt no over-reach when she cut the first branch.  She easily reached for the second branch and somehow either that branch or another one swept the ladder backwards.  She fell straight down, shattering one of her ankles, badly breaking the other leg, and breaking some of the bones in her back.  She said L1 through L4 are now fused.  She is in a brace/cast around her torso and braces/casts on both legs and the one ankle.  Maybe she broke both legs.  She is in a wheel chair and will be for a minimum of three months, absolutely no weight to be placed on her ankle or legs.  Certainly there will be recovery extending beyond that time once she is out of the wheelchair.

She said people have come out of the woodwork to help in many ways.  She seemed to be in good spirits.  She is a nurse practitioner herself and has a surgeon she had a lot of confidence in.

The simple fact remains : Elders fall with disastrous (even death) results.  No matter how careful we think we are being, accidents still happen.
