DEC 7, 19 .. PEARL HARBOR DAY IN THE UNITED STATES ..
December 7th, 1941, was a Sunday, when the Japanese Naval Forces launched their massive air attack on Pearl Harbor. My reading the below reference does not indicate whether or not the Japanese factored in it being a Sunday and the Unites States forces would be at rest.

When I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1960, I had the honor to serve with elder Marines who fought in the horrific Pacific island campaigns against the Japanese. To a man, none of them talked about their service. Oh but we knew what hell they endured.
When I went through Marine Corps Boot Camp, I was taught that we were going to fight for two groups of people. The first group being the Marines who fought for us when we were children and too young to serve in the military. The second group being the children who themselves were too young to enter the military service.
All I can do here is to salute those who fought and the many who died when I, as a child, could do neither. However, when my time to serve appeared, I was proud to do so. I have often said to Patti and to other friends, the one greatest single decision of my entire life to this moment was enlisting in the Unites States Marine Corps.

I was only 15 months old when this happened. My Dad served in the Navy later on as the war was underway. He would not talk about what he saw or did when he was on active duty, but we lived in Southern California when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He worked at some aircraft company. They were all on alert .. there was fear that the Japanese would keep coming from Pearl Harbor to the West Coast of the United States. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to and admiration for all of the service people that have dedicated some part of their lives to our country. Very humbly I thank each and every one of them.
