DEC 9, 19 .. I DID EVERYTHING 100% RIGHT .. THEN .. GOT SHOT AT AND MISSED SHAT AT AND HIT

I got into Seoul, South Korea, last Friday the 6th of December. I stayed with our friends Terry and Kathy over the weekend. BTW, in addition to being exhausted, I’ve been overtaken by some lung issues. Not a good thing.

Today is Monday the 9th of December. I take the long flight to Seattle tomorrow Tuesday the 10th of December. To eliminate a lot of drama getting out of downtown Seoul (this we did last February and it worked perfectly) on flight day, we (last February and me now) took a room out in Incheon close to the Incheon International Airport. The Days Hotel (U.S. Days Inn) was great. Free shuttle. Perfect.

Yesterday I called the Days Hotel and confirmed my reservation and the timing of the shuttle from the hotel to the airport and back to the hotel. As it was last February, you go to gate 14C outside of Terminal One and the Days Hotel Shuttle will arrive ‘around’ 25 minutes past the hour. This is not rocket science and it will vary.

The airport express bus from downtown Seoul to the Incheon Airport leaves the bus stop right near Terry and Kathy’s at 1229 hours and 1309 hours (it is a long schedule but these are the times I was looking at). It takes a good hour to get to the airport. Terry and I decided we’d aim to catch the 1309 hours bus airport bus 6030. He had things-to-do and this worked for him.

So the 1309 hours bus would get to the airport around 1430 hours (figuring a 1-hour 20-minute transit time).

As (good) luck would have it, Terry was at his flat to pick me up around noon. So I said to Terry, “Let’s get the 1229 bus. That will put me at the airport around 1350 hours in good time for me to get the 1425 Days Hotel Shuttle.”

It worked to perfection. We had an easy walk to the bus stop. Waited about fifteen minutes, here came the bus, on I hopped and off to the airport I headed.

My math was perfect. I was at the airport about 1345 hours. I had 40 minutes until the Days Hotel Shuttle was due at 1425 hours.

I got a Korean Sim Card for my Samsung A10 Smart Phone and off to gate 14C I went to get my shuttle.

Early, (I got there about 1415) I was all set.

And? I waited. And? I waited some more. Keep in mind I am not feeling too frisky with this bronchial issue.

So I called the Days Hotel. “I’m waiting at gate 14C for your 1425 shuttle. It’s now 1500 hours.”

“Sir the next shuttle is at 1725 hours.”

I wish they’d have told me this yesterday.

Odd but some good came of this misadventure.

Having a Korean Sim Card in my Smart Phone, I was able to use the OTO free app to call Patti who called me back.

So we are now in direct contact.

Thank You Ginny / Tom / Terry / Kathy for your support.

As I sign off I have an hour and a half to wait for the 1715 Airport Shuttle to the hotel.

And?

Life continues to bring surprises!

The shuttle came, on time, and off we went to the Days Hotel in Incheon.

Oh, sigh .. the last thing you needed was a lengthy wait for the hotel shuttle bus. It IS wonderful that you were able to get a SIM card and we are now in touch directly. I do hope you are able to sleep well once you get settled at the hotel. Much love, Patti

Amazing. Direct contact between us using a smart phone app named OTO free. It took some learning the nuances but we got there. Hey it’s only money and well worth it. Mister Samsung A10 stood tall once he got a Korean SIM card. THAT was the missing factor when I was with Terry and Kathy. They thought it would be the best to undertake the process at the airport and were correct. I got a great young man at KT (Korea Telecom) and returned to visit him several times as I walked the learning curve. Any IT Geeks reading here I’ve got 5G. I’m not sure 5G is even available in the U.S. Much Love .. Cap
