FEB 14, 22 .. A VERY, VERY SUPER .. SUPER BOWL

Los Angeles Rams 23 – 20 Cincinnati Bengals

Both Patti and I had been eagerly looking forward to this game. We had followed the National Football League throughout the entire season (excluding the pre-season  games) throughout the playoff games (which, in total, have been considered to have been the best series of playoff games in the history of the National Football League) so we were primed for this, the final game of the 2021 – 2022 season.

It is my opinion that, and this is based upon a lifetime of following various sports teams, for me to totally and fully enjoy any sporting event that is important to me, so that the final result will not depress me or put me into a negative frame of mind, I need (and I want) to get myself into the proper frame of mind.

To do so I consider :

First : It is not possible for ‘my’  team to win each and every single game they play.

Second : The fact is, the best outcome I can look forward to is simply – was my team ‘in’ the game and did they have a good chance to win the game and were they deserving of winning the game.

With these thoughts in mind (both) Patti and I began the game with this attitude : We truly wanted, hoped for and expected, the game to be a good (entertaining to us) game.

And?

The game met, and exceeded, all of our expectations.

Why?

We honestly, and we truly, wanted each team to win the game.

The Cincinnati Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals had an absolutely amazing season. It was, in many ways, beyond amazing! Joe Burrow (their quarterback) was the comeback player of the year and had a great season especially in the playoffs. The Bengals had not been in a Super Bowl game since the 1988 season and have never won the Super Bowl. The last time the Bengals were in the playoffs was year 2015.

And? In year 2019 the Bengals were 2 wins 14 losses. In year 2020 the Bengals were 4 wins 11 losses and 1 tie.

Got it? Coming into the 2021 season, the previous two years (2019 and 2020) the Bengals had won just 6 games total. So IF, on the first day of the 2021 (this) season, you would have told almost any Cincinnat Bengal fans that ‘their’ Bengals were going to be IN the Super Bowl they might have thought you were crazy.

And? Patti and I have friends who live in the Cincinnati Metro Area (Chad and Cori and Luke and Mary).

So? What’s not to love IF the Bengals win this game.

Go Bengals.

The Los Angeles Rams.

I, yours truly, was born in, and raised in, and educated in, the Detroit, Michigan, Metro Area. My blood runs Michigan Blue. ‘My’ Detroit Lions have never, ever, been to the Super Bowl.

And? ‘My’ Detroit Lions drafted Matthew Stafford (first overall)  in the year 2009 NFL draft.

And? Matthew Stafford gave it his all for the Detroit Lions for twelve (12) seasons.

Captain, excuse us Captain! What on this good earth has this Detroit Lions history and Matthew Stafford got to do with the Los Angeles Rams football team and this Super Bowl?

First, Matthew Stafford is the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams.

Second, probably each and every single Detroit Lions football fan (including yours truly) wanted, and hoped, that Matthew Stafford would win a Super Bowl Championship.

GO Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.

The game was a winner for Patti and me.

The Bengals (at the very end of the game) had a chance to either tie or to win the game had they put together a final drive. The Bengals had one minute and twenty five seconds to drive down the field and kick a field goal (to tie the game) or touchown (to win the game). Matthew Stafford’s team stopped the Bengals cold.

And? Patti and I along with many (IF not all) of the Detroit Lions football fans were thrilled Matthew Stafford got his Super Bowl Championship.

And? Ladies and Gentlemen, Sports Fans far and wide..

A sporting event absolutely and positively doesn’t get any better than this.

Smiling .. Cap and Patti

And? I charted the game. I followed each and every  single play (to the best of my ability). No! I don’t expect you all to read my journal because the photos are not good BUT you all ‘get the idea’, I was INTO this game.

IF you have gotten down here to the end of this Post, please continue to scroll down to read our Happy Valentine’s Day wishes.

We might have watched Al Michaels final appearance as a game caller. I sure hope not. He’s my favorite. Rumors say he will move to Amazon to call Thursday Night Football.

Al Michaels called the game, and named the United States victory over Russia in the 1980 Winter Olympic Ice Hockey Games in Lake Placid, New York, “Miracle On Ice” and has become really famous as a result. We too really enjoy him. We have not seen any formal announcement of his future plans. Thanks Gullible. Cap and Patti
