MAY 18, 22 .. TWO OF OUR FRIENDS MADE TODAY A GREAT DAY

Disclaimer : If you are not Gord or Ginny or Sam, I don’t think you’ll be too interested in this Post unless you happen to be Olga over in Chita.

Back on (see the first link below) September the 25th 2019, while in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, I purcased my very, first ever, smart phone.

Almost immediately after purchasing my Mongolian Smart Phone, I began to correspord with Gord (a senior citizen like me) about smart phones and my challenges with the learning curve. All of my wisdom after each exchange was this : Gord, I don’t think that you need the grief and challenges of dealing with a smart phone. So hold back on getting one.

In fact (see the below link) I ended the below Post with these words :

Bottom Line Gord. If you don’t want an almost endless-learning-curve, then you DO NOT WANT A SMART PHONE.

Life is one change after another. Change could be one constant (along with death and taxes) of life. The progression of today’s technology finally caught up with Gord (as it did with me, when my cell phone carrier said : (1) You either lose your service or  (2) You upgrade your phone to 4G capability.)

This afternoon Gord came over to our home for a visit.

The front of our home in Michigan.

The backyard view of our home in Michigan.

Gord and I must have talked over an hour about ??

You guessed it !! The progression of smart phone technology finally caught up with Gord and he too now has a smart phone because his carrier required him to upgrade to 4G (4G offers maximum, real-world download speeds, up to around 100Mbps, making it over 20 times faster than 3G. Theoretical maximum 4G speeds are significantly higher at 300Mbps, although such speeds are only achievable in controlled laboratory environments. 5G is far faster still).

And for reasons I can’t clearly recall, I don’t think he asked me any specific questions, I ended up showing Gord quite a few things (actually too many to go into here) because he, like me, is running the Android Operating System on his Samsung smart phone.

My VERY great pleasure Gord.

Thank You Gord for a great visit !

The CBS Televison Series – Survivor Season 42.

Back in 2004, Patti introduced me to Survivor, a televison series that has become part and parcel of our lives. There are two Survivor series each year, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn. Like so many things in life, you are either all-in or you could care-less. Patti and I are all-in. Enter Ginny and Tom, our great friends in Laughlin, Nevada. Ginny, like me, is a born and raised Detroit Michigander. Patti and I met Ginny through Tom who we have known since 2009. Tom is also a born and raised Michigander.

Now the plot-thickens. In order to watch Survivor, you need to have a access to a television. I don’t think you can see it streaming live on a computer or smart phone. Yes, the day after it runs live, you CAN indeed see the previous nights show.

And? Here in our home in Royal Oak, we do not have cable or streaming television. We have an antenna-televison that can only receive local televison stations, and none of the premium channels such as TNT , ESPN, CNN etc.

And? How were we going to watch the final two shows of Survivor Season 42.

Ginny to the rescue.

Ginny relocated to Laughlin, Nevada (I think in the Autumn of 2018) to successfully escape the Michigan winters.

But because the greater Detroit Metro Area is where Ginny has spent most of her life, she has ‘family’ here. Family includes her daughter Sam. Well now guess what : Sam and her husband, like Patti and me, are passionate, dedicated, faithful Survivor followers.

So, thanks to Ginny, who put us in touch with Sam, we were able to watch Survivors next to last epsiode of Season 42.

Thank You Ginny and Sam !!

Well, it’s now 2:45am here in the morning of Thursday May the 19th, Patti went to bed several hours ago, and it’s time for me to get to bed. BUT it is only 10:45pm in Alaska to my body. Captain you aren’t ever going to recover from your jet lag by remaining on your Alaskan time schedule !!

    Really INTERESTING page, Cap, applause!!!
You know, I was absolutely familiar to “challenges with the learning curve” after YOU’d helped me buy my new phone… ‘Course I would never go to the Internet to read about all these “speeds”, but here in your page, given in a relaxed manner, it’s a bit more convinient and practical to learn the life of a smart phone:-)
Another riddle I had still to solve having used the Net – “Survivor Series”. Have never seen such… episodes except of fantasy films… I admit, I’m shocked.
    Love you both Cap, Patti
And I’m proud of your friends who always come to the rescue :-)

Olga, Survivor has now been on televison here for twenty one years and it is shown in other countries as well. Patti got me interested in Survivor back in 2004. It is somewhat intense and to some degree complicated. Not sure why you wrote you are shocked. Yes we have wonerful friends LIKE YOU Olga. Smiles Cap and Patti

Hi Cap and Patti, I am always interested in whatever adventure you are on. So happy you got to see Survivor at air time instead of having to wait. I saw a tornado hit Michigan – I do hope that it didn’t adversely affect you but if it did, I hope you are safe now and in good condition, “fit spiritual condition” too. :-)

No it was in Gaylord, Michigan, 220 miles North of the Detroit Metro Area Kathleen. Just texted you about our real latest adventure. Smiles Cap and Patti
