NOV 29, 22 .. A MILESTONE ON DOTNET .. THIS IS POST NUMBER TWO THOUSAND (2,000)

Two Thousand (2,000) Posts here on dotnet. How can that be and how do you know ? This information is on my Dashboard !

Oh My, Oh My, how the time flies past all of us !

It seems like yesterday !

My International travel (call it recreational travel after I formally retired in July 1988) began in October of 1990 when I went to India (October 24, 1990 to May 18, 1991) for just under 7 months. I began hand writing about my travels and sending my writings to friends in the United States by snail mail during this first trip to India. My very first hand-penned journal was written in January of 1991. It was hand carried back to the United States in early January of 1991 by my great friend Greg who I met at the New Delhi India YMCA on December 27th, 1990. Greg then snail mailed it to my son and several friends in the U.S. I continued to hand-pen my travel adventures until sometime around year 2002 when I began to write and email my adventures to those who were interested. Then, somewhere in the mix, I learned what a website / blog was and I had been mulling that concept for quite some time.

Finally .. VOILA ! .. dotnet was born ..

My dotnet adventure began at a 9am Saturday morning meeting (unless my webmaster Andrej has a better date) August 4th, 2011, in Royal Oak, Michigan, at a church on Normandy Road, just West of Woodward Avenue. It was as if I was just there !

Why did a sudden chain-of-events occur? Only A Power Greater Than All Of Us knows. Andrej, sitting to my immediate right at the table, and I just had some of that magical ” people chemistry ” between the two of us. We two had never met (yet).

After the meeting, and why I asked Andrej the below question I’ll never know :

” Andrej do you know how to establish a website ? “

Andrej said .. ” Yes, in fact I have my own website. ” 

And (I’m not positive) we may have gotten together that same morning to discuss Andrej setting up a website, or if you prefer, a Blog, for me. By the way, the word Blog is a truncation of “web log”. A Blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries (posts).

Over the next 10 days Andrej got our Web Log (Blog) established and on August 16th 2011 I published the very first Post.

And dotnet was off and running !

In October another friend, Gullible, helped me set up a second Web Log (Blog) on Google blogspot.

On October the 22nd 2011, while in Agra Cantt, India, I published my first ever post on blogspot.

Oh, By The Way, the very next Post on our Google Blogspot will be Number One Thousand (1,000) !

Since I’m into numbers (this being the 2,000th Post) here is a bit of photo trivia : At this moment, I have posted (are you sitting down) Thirteen Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy Three (13, 973) photos. How on this Good Earth can that be possible ?

I wish I had something profound to say here but words of that ilk fail me.

The one, the only, the main, the major purpose of both dotnet and blogspot was to share in a neutral format my International Travels with those who were interested. When I was hand writing and snail mailing my adventures, when I began to email them, I was taking the initiative. It came to pass that some of my recipients no longer wanted to be receiving snail mail tomes let alone emails. Here on dotnet our followers are 100% totally free to peruse Posts at their convenience.

And then came Covid-19. Our International travels STOPPED COLD. They have not yet begun anew, and perhaps they never will. Because we have invested thousands of hours writing and publishing our Posts, we don’t want to just suddenly stop them. There are three thousand Posts between dotnet and blogspot (not to mention my third and fourth other websites) and writing has become an enormous part of What-I-Do. 

And ? We still have friends who continue to follow and support us !

We’ve been saying ..

Without all of the help and support we receive from all of you, we could not keep dotnet up and running. You continue to send us photographs and ask questions and make comments for us to answer and even suggest topics. 

And we like to think that maybe, just maybe, once in awhile a visit here to dotnet helps you have a pleasant change of scenery in your daily lives.

So while I am still able, I plan to keep-on-with-the-keeping-on here at dotnet because .. It’s What I Do .. (Thank You Peyton Manning !)

Because many of you do not check our website each and every day, we are going to repeat this message several times throughout the upcoming week.

Next Saturday, December the 3rd, we will be flying from Anchorage down to Seattle and then onward to Las Vegas. We will then travel by automobile South to Laughlin, Nevada, where we will enjoy a six night stay at the Edgewater Hotel and Casino Resort. Friday the 9th of December, we will head for Phoenix, Arizona, and some upcoming medical appointments at the Mayo Clinic.
