FEB 15, 23 .. WE ENJOYED A VERY NICE VALENINE’S DAY

I hate to begin a Post after writing few paragraphs and then suddenly being left with a blank page and having absolutely no idea of what I did to bring this on.

Get .. Over .. It .. Captain ..

Stop .. Thinking .. This ..

And.. Life .. Itself ..

Gets .. Easy ..

IF I can make one statement about Patti it is this : Patti loves flowers.

IF I can make one statement about myself it is this : Seldom, if ever, do I buy Patti flowers from a store or a florist.

Why, when I know she loves flowers, don’t I buy them for her? In my humble opinion they are (1) over priced and very expensive and (2) they don’t last very long. Maybe (at best) a week?

But I decided that for Valentine’s Day 2023, I would buy Patti one dozen red roses. I didn’t want Patti to sigh and think : “Cap NEVER gets me flowers!”

So yesterday (Valentine’s Day), I got up early, attended a 7am meeting, and afterwards I went to our local Smith’s Grocery Store and bought Patti a bunch (one dozen) of red roses.

I brought them home and very quietly placed them (still wrapped in their plastic wrapping) on the night stand beside Patti’s side of our bed.

Then I thought : I need to get a vase for Patti’s roses.

Out and off I trotted to our local Hospice Thrift Store and bought Patti a (I feel) nice, big, vase for her dozen red roses.

While I was out getting the vase, I went to our local Hallmark Card Shop to get Patti a top quality Hallmark Valentine’s Day Card.  This is another thing I seldom (IF ever) do, spend the money for a card from the Hallmark Store because Dollar Tree, and every other place that sells cards, sells them at half (or lower) the price of a Hallmark Store. I could NOT find, in THE Hallmark Store, the fancy, pricy, top quality Valentine Day card I wanted for My Valentine Girl Patti.

So I went to our local Dollar Tree store. The first card I picked up was the perfect Valentine card (made by taa-daa Hallmark). Go figure. Hallmark brand cards at the Dollar Tree store were far superior to the Hallmark cards in the Hallmark Store.

And who made the perfect, purchased at the Dollar Tree store, Valentine’s Day card?

Hallmark.

Back to our apartment, into our bedroom (oh so quietly) I went, got her flowers, took them out to our kitchen area and put them into her new vase.

I wrote her a Valentine’s Day message on her card and placed the flowers in their vase, along with her Valentine’s Day card, back next to the bed.

Out and off I went at 11:30am to attend a noon meeting because Patti was still sleeping (dead-to-this-world).

Patti woke up at 12:12pm and was thrilled to see a dozen red roses and her Valentine’s Day card.

We enjoyed a very VERY pleasant Valentine’s Day afternoon. We went to a 5:30pm meeting. After the meeting, along with our friend and Ally Michael, we enjoyed Singapore Rice Noodles at The Golden Phoenix restaurant.

A Valentine’s Day as-good-as-it-gets!!

What a delightful post expressing your love for your Valentine! Thank you for sharing.
Tip: Great “just because” flowers are carnations. Why? They smell nice, but not overpowering, they come in a great variety of colors, and they last a LONG time. I’ve had them go for 3 weeks or more.
    Xoxo from SoDak.

Thanks Kit. Yes Patti confirmed carnations do last a long time. BUT, to give someone “a dozen red roses” seems to be a tradition. So nice to hear from you Kit. Cap and Patti

Oh yes red roses are the bomb! I was just pitching for Patti with carnations for “off season.” Plus they are relatively inexpensive.
You did good Cap! Well I’m off to the barn to play with donkeys and horses today. Weather will be good to ride outside in the 40s.
