SEP 16, 23 .. UPCOMING .. A ROAD TRIP NORTH

Today is Saturday, the 16th of September 2023. I know you all know this BUT, in some “unusual way” when I write out the day and the date it seems to “register” with me. Make sense?

This next Monday, September the 18th, Patti and I are planning to drive from Anchorage North to Fairbanks. This is about a 360 mile drive that supposedly takes (for everyone but for Patti and me) six and a half hours (6-1/2). We are “doing very well” if we make it in eight (8) hours.

On Tuesday, September the 19th, we plan to drive from Fairbanks out to our cabin in Manley Hot Springs. This is a 160 mile drive that takes around 3-1/2 to four hours for us. Oh Yes some of the “younger” drivers make the trip in far less time than do Patti and I.

We plan to stay the night at the Cabin and possibly head back to Fairbanks on Wednesday, September the 20th. However we may stay another night and head for Fairbanks on Thursday, September the 21st. Then back to Anchorage on Friday, September the 22nd.

This will be “Our Manley Hot Springs Swan Song”. We will be saying goodbye to the cabin we have owned for over 25 years and to the Manley Community.

Yes Oh Yes there are some deep emotions involved in this “Swan Song” but life she progresses and, for far too many reasons to go into here, it is no longer feasible for us to make trips up from Anchorage or to maintain our Cabin.

I have taken (gone to some lengths) steps to be able to continue publishing Posts here on dotnet IF all goes according to my plans. Time will tell.

You should be seeing lots of fall colors.

Did you sell the cabin? What did you do with all the “stuff” in it and the yard sheds?

It will make someone a nice place to live or visit.

Yes Gullible we sold our cabin to a couple who both work on the North Slope AND WHO have also lived in our cabin for the past full year. So they know what life in Manley is all about. Yes everything on the property went with it! Good luck on your upcoming trip Gullible. Cap and Patti

Alas, the end of another era. I cherish my memories of staying at the cabin and the accompanying travel, especially to Kennicott, remain fresh in my mind.

Yes indeed Robert. It IS the end of an era. I too vividly recall your visit. Among other things, we got on the Haul Road and driving North across the Yukon River we checked out the Arctic Circle. Your Ally. Cap
