After Part I of HONG KONG MISCELLANEOUS you are back for Part II !  Although I don’t know about you all .. I certainly do say ..

I have explained in previous Posts that Hong Kong is an island .. a city .. and it is a large ‘general area’.  And that Kowloon is both a city and the Kowloon Peninsula of Mainland China.  What I know as the City-of-Kowloon is sub-divided into sections or districts just like New York City is divided into its five individual Boroughs (Manhattan .. The Bronx .. Queens .. Brooklyn .. Staten Island.)

Within what we will call Kowloon City .. You have Mong Kok .. Tai Kok Tsui .. Kin Tong .. West Kowloon .. Kowloon Tong .. Sham Shui Po .. Kwun Tong .. Hung Hom .. and .. taa-daa .. you have ..

TSIM SHA TSUI .. which is MY area of Kowloon.

Sometimes it is written as one word .. Tsimshatsui ..

However .. it is PRONOUNCED as one single word!

So IF you are visiting here .. you are going to say that “I am over in Kowloon and I am staying in Mong Kok.”  or that “I am staying in Tsimshatsui.”

I just want you all to be ‘street-smart’ and ‘world-traveler-wise’.

7 ELEVEN IS ‘BIG’ IN HONG KONG ..

There are 7 ELEVEN stores all-over both the Kowloon and the Hong Kong areas.  It has been my experience that each of them are full service stores. You can purchase telephone (PCCW) calling cards .. Octopus Cards (a card you pre-load with cash that then becomes a cash debit card .. EVERYONE (90% of the people) has an Octopus Card!) .. and you can purchase a wide variety of other items and services at each of the 7 ELEVEN stores.

McDonald’s is also very popular but there are far fewer McDonald’s than there are 7 ELEVEN stores.

BOTH are like old-and-trusted friends.  KFC is also present in the Hong Kong area.  So too (see below) are other U.S. franchise chains.
