I am writing the below on Tuesday Evening..

March 5th, 2024

Yesterday I wrote..

Monday March the 4th.

Patti had her appointment with her Mayo Clinic Doctor about her issues with her back. After his examination and clinical discussion with Patti, he ordered an MRI that Patti will have at 6:00am today, Tuesday March the 5th. Her last spinal MRI was in 2018! He will meet to discuss her back pain issues today (Tuesday) at 11:05am.

I wonder how many of you read these words from above.. Patti’s Doctor.. ordered an MRI that Patti will have at 6:00am today, Tuesday March the 5th.

Translation: Patti and I had to get up, get out of bed at 5am (Five O’Clock in the morning) get dressed and drive to the Mayo Clinic Hospital. We safely arrived, in the pre-dawn dark, at the Hospital at 5:45am.

It was nothing short of a “miracle” that yesterday afternoon we were able to be scheduled for this MRI this soon!

Then at 11:05am, at the Mayo Shea Campus, Patti had an appointment with her doctor. Another “miracle” to get him to read the MRI and discuss it with her so soon!

The problem?? At 9:30am, I had to have a special series of x-rays beginning with my left hip all the way down to my left ankle. I had an appointment with my orthopedic doctor at 10:30am to discuss my 9:30am x-rays.

The problem?? It is a 30-minute drive from the hospital on the Phoenix Campus to the Shea Campus where Patti had to be at 11:05am.

There was NO WAY that we could do this! Get my x-rays, see my doctor, then get to the Shea Campus by 11:05am to see Patti’s spinal doctor.

At 5:45am as Patti checked in for her MRI, I asked the staff IF they could move my 9:30am x-rays earlier. “Sir. The X-Ray Department isn’t even open now. You will have to wait until at least 7am.”

At 7am I was “on it”. “Sir we have NO openings available earlier than your 9:30am appointment.” So then I called the Main Mayo Scheduling Department that opened at 7am. “Sir we can fit you in at 7:25am BUT you will have to go to another building.” I “grabbed” the appointment!! At maybe 7:10am Patti appeared having had her MRI. Off we two dashed to the Building 2 second floor laboratory. I got my 9:30am x-rays at 7:25am.

Then I called my Orthopedic Department about my 10:30am appointment. I said “Can you possibly move my 10:3am appointment even 15 minutes earlier?” They said “We see you have your x-rays.” “Can you be here at 9am to see your orthopedic doctor?” I said “I am physically IN the building now this instant YES!”

When (and just now this instant) I told Patti I began to weep at what the Mayo Clinic staff did for us.

We had to be at the Shea Campus for Patti’s 11:05am appointment.

We were physically there at 9:30am an hour and one half early!

11:05am. Patti was advised she has several options. The Mayo Clinic does not approve or nor will they prescribe hydrocodone for pain management! Patti may get an epidural injection. She has had several prior epidural injections and each was less effective than the preceding injection. She can opt to try extra strength Tylenol three times a day for a week. If it helps she will continue it or use it only when the pain is severe and she needs relief. Patti currently has hydrocodone for severe pain and may take one pain pill in one year. Patti does “not do pain pills”.

After the above we attended a 12 noon meeting at the North Scottsdale Fellowship Hall.

Then we came home exhausted.

The end. Over and Out. We are deeply humbled and honored IF anyone cares enough to read all of the above!

Cap and Patti

Yes indeed! Tonight we will be watching .. Taa Daa ..

Over and Out.

Thanks Kit. Only someone who is totally familiar, from their own actual experience, can fully understand what a miracle all of these changes, REQUESTED ONLY an hour or so before scheduled appointment times, truly were. Smiles. Cap and Patti

Okay, was a potato any of Patti’s options? If not, what’s the harm in trying? Very small potato–often red potatoes are small. Get more fuel points.

I agree Gullible. What is the harm of trying a very small potato. And fuel points as well. Smiles .. Cap and Patti

Wow! What a dance. The choreography was brilliant, Cap. I’m glad you were able to get everything coordinated. Patti, I hope the Tylenol helps. I hate taking Tylenol because the warning signs go off in my head like a klaxon. Same with other pain pills. My philosophy is ‘only when desperate.’ Desperate times call for desperate measures. I bet you guys are exhausted. I hope you both sleep like my cats – easily and deeply.

Kathleen, IF Patti takes a formal pain pill, it is maybe one or two times in an entire year. Her Mayo Doctor does not consider Tylenol a “pain pill” as such because Tylenol has far fewer side effects (if any) to Mayo. Oh Yes What a Dance it was Kathleen yesterday’s appointment rescheduling turned out to be! Thanks for your comment Kathleen. Cap and Patti

Whew! I’m thoroughly mentally exhausted from trying to connect all of your changes to all of your appts, labs, xrays and consultations. But you did it, Cap and Patti! Your reliability, diligence and ability to keep infinite details slotted in your deep memory banks has always astounded me! FYI I’ve shared many times with friends if you travel with Cap and Patti you will get the ‘star-studded’ all-encompassing totality one could ever dream about. Warning! Just fasten your seat belt! lol
    Love you to pieces…..
