Because each day there are so many of them, Patti and I only show “National Days” here on dotnet that have interest and appeal to at least one of us.
Unfortunately what interests one or perhaps both of us, may well NOT be of any interest to you following along here on dotnet.
In my lifetime, I have actually played five different team sports. In order of activity and importance to me the five are : Tennis and Ice Hockey stand alone together at the top. Then come Football, Baseball and lastly Basketball. Although I was active as a full time, professional, automobile racing mechanic, I don’t consider it to have been one of my “Sports”.
One of “Today’s Days” was Tennis and it jumped right out at me.
WIMBLEDON!
Way back in July of 1975, my wife and I were with our two sons in London, England, during Wimbledon. No! We did not see any matches but we certainly were part of the activity swirling around Wimbledon at the time. The buses were packed and the traffic was beyond impossible. One day it was well after 1 O’Clock in the morning before we finally were able to get onto a bus back to our room!
In 1975, Arthur Ashe defeated defending champion Jimmy Connors in the final, 6–1, 6–1, 5–7, 6–4 to win the gentlemen’s singles tennis title at the Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon singles title and third and last major singles title overall.
Wimbledon is located in the Greater London, England, megapolis.

Wimbledon, the oldest and most prestigious tennis championship in the world, first took place in 1877. This year Wimbledon begins on June 24 and ends on July 14.
The actual Championships 2024 will be played over 14 days from Monday 1 July to Sunday 14 July. From Jun 24 to Jun 30 are some preliminary, final qualifying rounds.
Wimbledon takes place on grass — the only Grand Slam event to do so. Both the Australian Open and the US Open are hardcourt events; Roland Garros (the French Open) occurs on clay. The Wimbledon draw consists of 128 men and and 128 women in the singles events, as well as 64 men’s and women’s doubles teams each. The top 5 men’s singles seeds are .. 1. Jannid SINNER (ITA) 2. Novak DJOKOVIC (SRB) 3. Carlos ALCARAZ (ESP) 4. Alexander ZVEREV (GER)
5. Daniil MEDVEDEV (RUS) but get set for plenty of surprises at the All England Club.
Wimbledon quirks: Strict fashion rules require all players to wear white — and players do not compete on the “middle Sunday” of the event (July 7 this year).

Wow! didn’t know your tennis leanings. I played tennis (doubles only) at the WC Senior Center from 2002 to about 2020. Was just a duffer but enjoyed it. Met some great people.
Oh My Robert! Cap and Tennis and you Robert! Let’s go back, way back, to (I think) 1966 when you and I and (Taa Daa) P.K. Morrill worked together at the CofE on McAllister Street under Ike Campbell. Are you back there with we three??
P.K. was a former stock broker and P.K. talked me into buying a certain stock saying to me “Cap you will not lose any money because if you do I will cover your loss!”
Well I quickly lost my money! P.K. said “Cap let’s play a tennis match. If I win you cover your loss. If you win I will cover your loss.” I agreed. P.K. won and I lost my money. Truth be told, I was no match for P.K. who later told us he had played College Level Tennis.
I think you were there when P.K. and I played our match. Robert, does this bring back any memories of Cap and Tennis and you? Wonder what ever happened to P.K. He was “a bit of a troubled soul” as I recall! .. Your Ally .. Cap
Oh, I sure do remember P.K. Morrill, Jr. Thanks for the reminder of that match. No idea of his whereabouts. Since he was a West Pointer, there is probably a roster telling at least live or dead.
Thanks for your reply in comment 2 Robert. I really appreciate it a lot. I was 95% positive that P.K. was a “West Pointer” but not 100% so did not mention it. To play tennis at West Point is certainly respectable and, as I said in my comment, I was no match for P.K.
Do you remember one time in the office he told us that he was really upset because, I think his sister, took a little red fire truck from him as a child? It was seemingly a “life changing” event for him. Whewie! Over And Out Robert. Your Ally .. Cap
