AUG 3, 24 .. MIXED NUTS.. SAND CASTLES..

Well here we go again! Loop De Loop.. Loop De Li..

If there is one thing that Patti and I love, it is, taa-daa, Mixed Nuts.

NATIONAL TODAY.. Is the source of a lot, but not 100% of, the information on my “Days”.

Well what have we here?

National Grab Some Nuts Day on August 3 is the ultimate nutty day.

Nuts, legumes, seeds drupes, either way – they’re all considered nuts and are all in some way a part of our daily diet. Nuts are rich in nutrients and minerals, and if eaten in the correct quantities, are great for improving our health. This day promotes the consumption of all nuts, the health benefits, and their tastiness. You won’t be surprised to hear that it’s a very nutty occasion.

Although the origin of National Grab Some Nuts Day is unknown, we do know that when this day first started being observed there was some confusion to its purpose. Some were celebrating the nuts we eat, whereas others thought it was all about the metal nuts that go with bolts. Whilst these metal nuts obviously serve their purpose, we’d rather be celebrating food, which is pretty much our stance on most matters.

There is also ample discussion on what is defined as a nut and what is a legume. A legume is generally recognized as a pod containing multiple seeds that begins to open on its own when the season for harvesting approaches. For the purposes of National Grab Some Nuts Day, we suggest celebrating the day by grabbing a handful and savoring the taste!

Whatever it may be, either botanical or non botanical nuts, nuts have an impressive amount of protein, vitamins ,minerals, potassium, iron and so on. They say “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but even nuts are also capable of this! Consider consuming nuts on a daily basis for snacking to absorb those important nutrients.

Other nutty days do occur throughout the year. These include National Almond Day and National Pecan Day. There’s also a day for cashews, walnuts, peanuts, macadamia nuts, pistachios, and chestnuts. This day is a day for celebrating all these days bundled up in one and grabbing handfuls of as many different kinds as you like. Raw or roasted. Salted, seasoned or plain.

Here are Some Nutty Tid-Bits..

Patti and I really enjoy eating the Costco Brand, Salted, Extra Fancy, Kirkland Mixed Nuts.

How many nuts should I eat a day? The American Heart Association recommends eating four 1.5-ounce (about a handful) servings of unsalted, unoiled nuts per week.

Macadamia nuts and pecans have the most calories.

Which nuts are the most environmentally friendly? Organically grown pecans, peanuts, pine nuts and sunflowers seeds are the most sustainable options.

Make sure to grab a handful of your favorite nuts to snack on. If done sensibly, this is a great way to stay healthy. It’s worth reading up on the health benefits of including nuts in your daily diet.

Add nuts to your food. Try adding some nuts to a meal. Nuts add texture to baked goods and savory dishes. Options include adding nuts to your salads, stir fry, or the crust of a pie. Check out some nutty recipes on YouTube.

Share on social media Post about it online and share a photo or two of eating a handful of nuts. Use the hashtag #NationalGrabSomeNutsDay on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

A nut is a fruit composed of an inedible shell and an edible seed.

You’re not nuts! Walnuts, cashew nuts, almonds, and pecans are technically not nuts, they’re seeds.

Roasting nuts can strip significant fat, so it’s better to eat nuts raw.

Nuts have been eaten for 1000 years in the US.

Almonds are enriched with antioxidants and vitamin E.

Nuts are a great way to stay healthy and fit and are healthiest when eaten raw. People who eat nuts regularly generally have lower levels of heart attacks, coronary heart disease, strokes and cancer.

Nuts are high in calories but they are a great way to lose weight. They contain fiber which helps to improve gut health and decrease calorie absorption, thus making you feel full. They also have anti-inflammatory properties which can help with ageing.

Nuts have a unique taste – they’re nutty! From almonds, pistachios, cashews, peanuts, walnuts, pecans, brazil nuts and more, we love their unique flavor and crunch when added to meals that we just die for.

That is That for Nuts!

Time for some Sand Castles!

Again, Patti and I pick these National Today “Days” because we relate to them. While in India, going back to 1993, Patti and I saw a lot of Sand Castles on the beaches of Puri (a city), Orissa (an Indian State South of Calcutta). Unfortunately we are not able to find the photographic data chips with pictures of our Puri Sand Castles.

Sandcastle Day is observed on the first Saturday in August every year. So this year, it falls on August 3. Sandcastle Day was created to remind us of the pleasure that a bit of sand, water, and sunlight can provide us in the summertime. Everyone’s childhood sandcastle experiences should be treasured for the rest of their lives. Sandcastle Day is an excellent opportunity to take a few hours out of your day to recall how much fun it can be to build sandcastles at the beach with your children.

The creator or developer of Sandcastle Day has yet to be identified. Sandcastles, on the other hand, have existed for thousands of years and are a treasured memory for both adults and children. Some communities have raised sandcastle construction to the status of an art form.

This annual event was established to remind us how much pleasure can be enjoyed by playing with water and sunshine in the sand. Memories from childhood of our sandcastle days should be cherished for the rest of one’s life. Sandcastle Day is an excellent opportunity to take a few hours out of your day to recall how much fun it can be to build sandcastles at the beach with your children.

Sand Castle Tid-Bits..

Get this! The world’s tallest sandcastle was constructed in the 2007 ‘Sun Fun Festival’ in Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. The tower, which stood about 50 feet tall, took ten days to create and used 300 truckloads of sand.

From 1989 through 2009, the World Championship in Sand Sculpture was held at the Harrison Hot Springs in Harrison, British Columbia, Canada, sometimes known as “Harrisand.”

Building sandcastles on the beach may assist in developing social skills such as problem-solving, sharing, and communication. These are important skills for kids to learn at an early age.

Building sandcastles is very good for developing a feeling of texture. Sand is not only a fresh and varied texture for youngsters to experience on their skin, but the contrast it provides with concrete, dirt, or wood will highlight the sense of each surface.

One advantage of constructing sandcastles on the beach is that caregivers may watch children from a short distance. This offers an autonomous play experience, depending on their child’s age.

Silica is the main component of sand. ‘Silica’ is silicon dioxide, a chemical that makes up most of the earth’s crust.

Sand comes in a variety of hues. Tropical beaches, such as those in Hawaii, are whiter because they are composed of calcium carbonate.

Few creatures dwell on the sand. Most people can’t live on the sand since it’s continuously changing and moving, however, creatures like crabs use it as shelter from predators.

Our coastline is protected by sand.Erosion caused by hurricanes or other natural catastrophes may harm our ecosystem and so, humans attempt to intervene via sand replenishment initiatives, yet our ecology suffers as our shoreline erodes.

Sand is essential in the building industry using massive amounts of sand to manufacture concrete.

Sand Castles!

Whoa!

These little fellows LOVE the sand!

There You Have It!

Nuts and Sand Castles!

Or? Would you rather have seen..

Giggling! Such Fun!
