SEP 7, 24 .. DOUG SHAW.. ASSUMPTIONS.. JULIA CAMERON.. GOOGLE..
DOUG SHAW..
God Rest Your Soul Doug!
Back in July of the year 2000, I lost an avid reader, Doug Shaw. One day Doug really ‘took me to task’ for writing-about-writing saying : “I don’t want to read about your writing endeavors, I want to read and see new and interesting thoughts and photographs.”
Even though Doug we was one of my very best friends, he no longer had any interest in reading my posts.
Doug and I got “Past this small road bump!” and remained best of friends until he passed away in July of 2018.
One time Doug sent me the below story..
Sister Mary lived in the monastery for 5 years before the Priest said to her, ‘Sister Mary, you have been here for 5 years.
You may speak two words.
Sister Mary said ‘Hard bed.’
‘I’m sorry to hear that’ the Priest said, ‘We will get you a better bed.’
After another 5 years, Sister Mary was summoned by the Priest. ‘You may say another two words, Sister Mary.’
‘Cold food,’ said Sister Mary, and the Priest assured her that the food would be better in the future.
On her 15th anniversary at the monastery, the Priest again called Sister Mary in to his office. ‘You may say two words today.’
‘I quit,’ said Sister Mary.
‘It’s probably best,’ said the Priest, ‘You’ve done nothing but bitch since you got here.’

ASSUMPTIONS..
Patti has a 365 Day Calendar of Thoughts titled “Friends”.
Yesterday Daily Thought.

Proverbs 18:24 basically says: “A man of too many friends will be broken in pieces and come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”.

Thank You Ginny for sending us the above image!
The above Thought stayed with me all day.
I kept thinking: The Author of Proverbs 18:24 is “Assuming” that everyone has a brother who cares for them and is protective of them.
Being an ‘only child’ I have no brothers or sisters. BUT I have heard many of my friends expressing opinions of their brotherly siblings that are NOT flattering.

Doug did not understand that to write and publish things you have got to begin somewhere. Often you sit down to write and your mind is absolutely and totally devoid of “topics”.
“When we start to write, we prime the pump and the flow of ideas begins to move. It is the act of writing that calls ideas forth, not ideas that call forward writing.” So sayeth Julia Cameron.
All of the above has been my “getting-going process” today.
Doug! Patti and I sure miss you!

Then my detractors think: And you “End up here Captain!” Go figure!
Well I sat down, wrote the above, and I could have stopped BUT..
I personally am really interested in the below September 7th”Day”!

I use Google all the time to search anything and everything. I have a Google blogspot website. My smart phones run Google’s Android Operating System.
NATIONAL DAY CALENDAR.. Is the source of all of the information on our “Days”.
We celebrate Google Commemoration Day on September 7 each year. Google is a search engine created as a research project at Stanford University to locate files on the internet.
What differentiates Google from its competitors and keeps it in the pole position among search engines is its page ranking system. This system sorts results according to relevance and helps people find answers to virtually everything. Despite its reputation as a premium search engine, Google offers several services such as Google Maps to make life much easier. In fact Google also provides scholarships to support funds towards education.
Sometime in January of 1996, Stanford University Ph.D. students Sergey Brin and Larry Page began a research project. This project involved creating a search engine, this project would turn out to be the origin of what we now know as Google.
They developed an algorithm tagged “PageRank.” Its job was to identify the relationships between websites. It then assigned a relevance value to a site based on the number of links it had to others. This was in contrast with other search engines that assigned relevance based on the number of times the search term appeared on the page.
Originally called BackRub, they chose the name Google (a misspelling of “googol”) because it represents the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. This symbolizes Google’s commitment to providing information and the infinite nature of information on the web.
Google expanded over time from a search engine, providing wide-ranging services including Google Mail, Google Docs, Google Blogspot, Google Sheets and Google Drive. Alphabet Inc. was created in 2015 as a result of restructuring within the company, with Google becoming the main subsidiary. Despite facing criticism on topics such as privacy issues and search neutrality there is no denying the influence of Google in today’s digital world.
Google Tid-Bits..
Yahoo was the top search engine when Google entered the fray. The early 2000s were Google’s defining years. In 2002, Yahoo tried to acquire Google for about $3 billion and they failed.
The lowest earners at Google are entry-level employees at $51,000.
Google fields about one million applications and resumes every year. Somewhere between 4,000 to 6,000 of those applications are successful.
Google boasts the largest website index in the world with over three billion sites.
Despite the magnitude of its website index, Google can sift through the index in less than a second.
On August 16th 2013, Google was unreachable for about five minutes. Global Internet usage dropped by a staggering 40%.
Google has offices all over the world. They have over 60,000 employees in 40 nations all over the world who work together to make the company what it is today.

Mind Bending!

Cap and Patti
- SEP 6, 24 .. A LOOK BACK AT YESTERDAY’S 88th BIRTHDAY.. READ A BOOK.. THE NFL SEASON HAS BEGUN!..
- SEP 8, 24 ( 2 / 2 ) .. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL..
Listen up, Sports Fans! If you haven’t already, check out Caitlyn Clark with the WNBA Indiana Fever.
She is a record-setting rookie who is a phenomenal player. I wasn’t the least bit interested in the WNBA until I started hearing about her. She has turned around her losing team and now has a playoff berth!
Her ball handling is amazing, she 3-pointers from 28 feet, and her unselfish play in assists has resulted in her teammates blossoming and setting their own records.
Attendance at games is way up. She’s turned the whole league upside down.
Outstanding comment Gullible. Caitlyn was getting hit with a lot of “physical, cheap, dirty, hits” early on in her professional career but onward she has progressed! Yes! She has indeed turned the whole league upside down. Cap
Long time friend and Ally, Danny Z 48073, and I exchanged text messages about Doug Shaw and “my process” when it comes to writing and publishing Posts here on dotnet.
Incoming text from Danny. Wow! I am blessed that Doug did not contact you about your writing process before I wrote my thesis. Had that happened you would never have completely changed my life!!! Thank you God! Thank you Cap!
My reply text back to Danny. Whewie Danny !! Thanks so very much for your text and for expressing your opinion and feelings!! The deal was this Danny: Doug DID NOT CHANGE MY PROCESS!! Quite often a writer can’t think it out as to what to say and how to phrase it!! In such a case, a writer must take the action of just beginning to write and follow where it leads them!! Your input is so valuable Danny!! Thanks so very much.. Smiles.. Your Ally .. Cap
